My runner has 4.56 stock. But it's a 2nd gen.

...and even with 4.56 it's still a slug.

I though some 3rd gen runners came with 4.30s. Never heard of 4.56 on one stock.

The 4.30s and the 4.56 had the same door axle code. Most 3.4 4runners had the 4.30 diff not the 4.56. The 4 cylinder had 4.56s more often, still not very many though. My guess is he has 4.30s as I have only ever seen the 4.30 option, not that there are not any 4.56s, 4.30s are the most common with that axle code.

I believe that with metric the first number is from rim to rim going around the tread. The second number is the height of the sidewall. Hence a 285x75x16 is wider but slightly shorter than a 255x85x16.

I don't know, I remember when DOT did the vin number I thought that's what he said it had. He did the vin to find the right third. I have no idea it pushes the 285's better than my last one.

This is what I was told.

I'm just going to change over to inches when it's time for new tires

That would require a rim change as I believe metric is the only one that offers a 16 inch rim opening

I might be stuck with metric, can't find anything I like in 33s.

285 is what I'm running. Think in the bfg at its a 32.5 255x85 is skinnier but just a hair taller at 33.1

    I don't want skinnier tires.

I'm running 265-75-16 right now. So almost stock. I would really like a little taller and a little wider than I have right now.

This whole metric tire sizing crap is making my head hurt. Why can't we just use inches like I learned at school? I only learned a small amount of metric in the military, but not enough to deal with this stuff.
