whats so special about a gas can that it can be military issue or sales only?

initially i was pretty stoked about rotopax... but the price and capacity just doesnt add up for me. it would be super convenient to store the gas in mountable containers on a bed rack or something.. but that 4gal just looks awkward as hell.. and id like to carry at least 10gal if im going somewhere out of the way for a few days with double the water. it doesnt appear that i would be able to use that universal mount and stack 3gal tanks beside each other either. id need four of them anyways!

i mean, am i missing something? why are people willing to pay so much?

The MFC cans are thick walled and very tough , do not leak even upside down but are not CARB compliant so therefore not available to consumers in the US

~The Scepter Military Fuel Canister (MFC) was developed by Scepter to meet design and performance requirements set by the U.S. Army and Canadian Forces for leak-proof, rugged, safe, dependable and cost-effective plastic jerry canisters. Designed to and meets Mil-C-53109, which has evolved to CID A-A-59592A. Scepter has produced and delivered over one million MFCs.

*Cap straps are colour coded to identify type of fuel
*Accepts pour spouts (see MFC Accessories)
*Fits standard pattern vehicle brackets for liquid storage containers
*Air-vent tube in neck keeps pouring smooth
*Inside threads accept adapters for stoves and heaters
*Air chamber at the top; the container will float

Mfc are legit as hell... I'll have to get in touch with our supply sgt so I can see about getting two... Extra 10 gals of fuel would be sweet on long trips..

The MFC by scepter are plastic and stupid tough, you can drive on them and they won't break, they won't rust obviously and if it's good enough for the canadian military and the US military, it's good enough for my truck.

The black paint would get it so hot that it would explode? I've wondered about this before.

Too much to list, but enough to get me in trouble. Repeatedly.
Any willingness to part with four of them?
