Well I just got a little one to mess around with. I originally wanted to mount it in my center console but didn't want to cut out anything. This is where I mounted mine for now and it's already starting to get on my nerves. C6E9FCA7-FCCB-4693-A70A-951029BA1AA0_zps_9743ee1b8924f4ddef6e587d4e3f4553284528c8.jpg

Thats the same one I got I didnt want any holes in the lower dash. Cutting in the center console was easy.

It's 3 screws into that compartment cap. Every time I hit a bump it drops down

I opened up my CB and soldered ethernet cable to the back of the mic jack. Ran the ethernet cable under my dash and installed a second jack there. The radio is totally hidden while driving. I do have to open my arm rest to change channels, but I rarely need to.

I'm really happy with it. I had to do the second jack because the armrest wouldn't close with the mic plugged in. I lived with it for about 2 months but I had to have the armrest open while using the CB... No good when bouncing around off road.

Yeah that's what I'm worried about. Having the center console open to use the mic.

It really wasn't hard. If you can use a soldering iron and are confident enough to take your radio apart, you can do it. I should have taken pics for a write-up. I bought the second jack on Amazon for like 8 bucks. If I were to do it again though, I wouldn't use the same ethernet cable. I used the solid strand stuff and I'm worried the wires may break. Use the braided wire stuff if you can find it.

I was also thinking about mounting underneath the climate control but there's no space to run my wires through

I was looking at doing that too. I was just going to drill a hole through the cubby piece. I think I found that part from toyota for like 40 bucks or something if you ever have to put it back. Don't quote me on that price though...

no need to do so. the cb mic cord will fit under the arm rest so you can close it with zero modifications. the issue will be hearing the CB through the closed lid. I added a aux speaker so I could hear.

whatever you do don;t install it where someone will hit it should you get in an accident. I see all these guys putting them down by their legs and cringe thinking about if they got into an accident what that metal case will do to their legs. poor placement of items or shitty job securing them can kill when accident forces are involved.
