    Just got a call from Fastenal. :mad: Bumper didn't show up on this shipment, now they are saying NEXT monday the 17th. Was shipped from Pelfreybilt February 20th. :rolleyes: I understand Fastenal is slow, but three+ weeks slow!? They fabbed the bumper quicker then the damn shipping. :facepalm:

    Indeed it does! Maybe it'll show up before the weekend, apparently the system showed today as the delivery date last week, but now shows the 17th. As long as it doesn't show up damaged I'll be happy...this much time in the hands of Fastenal can't be good.

    Went out to ShoeCreek Saturday morning. Snow on the trails when I got there, Sunday by noon everything was a mucky mess. Didn't drive back very far. Camped up above Crabtree, drove back to the AT and hiked up into The Priest Wilderness area a bit. The weather was excellent.

    Not saying that buying a home is a bad idea, it's great idea IF you plan to be in that location for more than 3-4 years... Being military it is hard to decide to buy a home when there is always that lurking threat of a mandatory move.
    I've been lucky in that my last two duty locations I bought houses; was in them 6 and 9 years, made a nice chunk of profit when I left. Uncle Sam was kind enough to let me stay there that long... not all career fields have that stability.

    Now that I'm here at Langley, I don't have that security since these HQ gigs are usually only 3 year tours. We chose to just rent to save the hassle of attempting to sell a house when we leave. I know a lot of fellow service men/women with houses scattered all over the country they are either trying to sell or have renters in and just barely breaking even. My last house I sold just months before the housing market tanked.

    Had the truck aligned at Firestone (lifetime plan paying for itself still) and it is sweet!

    Renting or buying... If you can't stay 5 years... renting is a great option... though there are property management companies that can make being a landlord a great deal! If you can buy low enough so your mortgage is well below rental rates... its a win-win. When you get Xferred, rent it for what the market brings, you lose 10% to management, the rest goes into the remodel fund so when YOU move back in... you update the place!

    If you'll only be here a couple few years and have no intention of staying... then renting may just be the ticket.

    Been in my place 7 years. I bought it JUST before the crash. I've been as high as $150K UPSIDE DOWN... but am now about 50K down. It is getting better. We are going to rent it while we are in NY... and lose $200 per month after management fees.... but eventually we'll be in a good spot with it.

    In Buffalo, we can rent for $1300 or more a month... or BUY a nice house for $700 a month. Even though we plan on being there just a handful of years... it would be dollars dumb to rent with their market. When we move back here, we'll rent the buffalo house... but for a healthy profit. I'm actually considering buying a couple homes or a double as there are so many affordable ones.
