At the alignment shop, guy tells me there is too much play in the upper control arms to get an alignment... I just got these SPC / Light Racing uppers 2ish years ago, why would there be a problem with them already?

Play develops in the tube running through the shock tower. Mine was so wore out I had the same issue. I installed some UCA double shear plates gussetts and it removed the play. I suggest you do the same.

The problem isn't your upper arms, its the mounting of them.

What would cause too much play in the shock tower. Are you sure the play isn't in the bushings?

Crawled under the truck this weekend, why does it seem like the bolts aren't even seated where they should be? Is this normal?

That doesn't look right to me, I'd have to look at my stock UCAs

Same thing happened to me...the bushings were trashed. Call SPC and get the new upgraded ones.

Called into SPC, there is a lifetime warranty on these, but they have to be sent in for repair, not sure I want to go that long without my truck... The other option is to purchase these

    http://www.spcalignment.com/index.php?option=com_spc&task=part_description&pid=25476

Basically just an upgraded bushing, these come on the new upper control arms, mine are just a generation old. Haven't decided what I want to do, but this may be a good option.

Anyway to tell if you have old generation vs. new with better bushings?

I just put LR UCAs in last weekend. My bushings did not look like what you have there. I had to press them in, and the washer went flush against them.

There has been about 3 different styles of bushings over the years

So what did you decide to do?

The cheapest option is to get the replacement bushings from SPC. I am in the process of replacing the original pressed in bushings right now. I replaced the driver side last night. It took me about three hours from start to finish.

The good thing about the "newest" new bushings is that the end that gets pressed through the sleeve is tapered. You don't have to worry about cutting up the flange of the bushing anymore. I plan on taking pictures of the install on the passenger side.
