Taking the truck into the dealer tonight to let them have a look. When the truck is cold there's a very distinct and loud whining/grinding noise which slowly goes away after everything warms up. I know these trucks have "noisy" engines but this sounds more like a pump or something that's gone bad.

I've done a few searches on the site and I've seen several posts regarding bad pulley's (idle pulley etc.) but I can't imagine that's the case on a brand new truck (only 3,000km's on the odo).

While waiting for the engine to warm up this morning (it's a balmy -3C in Ottawa today) I noticed the power steering fluid was below the "cold min" line so I'm hoping a top up will help...but it begs the obvious question as to where the fluid went, or perhaps was it even filled to the right spot before?

Damn, it sounds exactly like that, well sh*t....guess I'm having a longer discussion with the dealer than expected.

That's my truck in the video. Make sure that your dealer pulls the serpentine belt first. That will show them that the noise is internal in the engine. There's a lot of info in the thread I linked to. Hotrod53 is getting a ton of new parts thrown at his truck, I'm waiting to hear back from my dealership on mine. They're starting with a front cover/oil pump, but I'm expecting there to be more.

I feel pretty sure that we're looking at the beginning of some kind of TSB at the least.

Yikes! I'm starting with an oil change tomorrow and if that doesn't help then I'm going to leave it with them overnight so they can start it cold and hear the sound.
