    I hear one of you guys is a light expert...:help:So I am looking to add some lights to my rig in the front. I can get a smoking deal on marine Rigid duallys or d2's from my distributors. Works for me since my truck is white anyhow. So my question is, I am going to use some of the famous fab hood mounts to sling a pair of duallys or d2s up by the a pillars jeep style. Should I go with d2's or duallys? also what pattern would be good for that location? I also plan to run a pair of light force 170 halogens and a set of dually amber floods when the front bumper goes on.

    Thanks for any suggestions!

    Well as far as the D's go i have 4 of the spots up front and 2 floods for back up lights i would say dont run floods upfront it's kinda a waste of money. the spots do well but dont perfrom like light force does Monty knows that cuz he is out Light expert but from my experiance if you can get a banging deal on the D's or D2's do it and i perfer bumper mounting them to avoid any possible glare off the hood but that all up to you.

    If your gonna have LEDs up front. Don't bother with spot. LED optics can't keep up with a big lamp lens.

    So, get which ever ya want far as im concerned. LEDs are only good for flood lights. the Hood mounts will work fine with them pointed out wards as ditch lights.

    then get the LF170s for your main driving lights.

    That was true ten years ago. Things have changed. Even china led's outperform traditional lamps. I have a 20" china bar that blows away my HID's. I now use the HID's for back up lights. That said, if I was doing "ditch lights" I would go with euro/driving pattern.

    god no.

    Even Rigids top of the line 50'' bar doesn't project as far as an HID lamp.

    They just don't, you can go a look at all the specs. Lumens mean Dick remember, look at the distance @ 1 Lux rating. 1 Lux is about the amount of light you need to read print.

    LEDs are over priced RF noise boxes IMO.

    They have their place, i mean i have like..10 on my truck alone..but i would NEVER use LEDs as a main driving light.

    Not yet.

    Have you compared them side by side? I have. I think you will change your mind when you do. Sure, if you are talking about longest possible range HID's win. If you are talking about usable light for driving at high speeds offroad, LED"s win for sure. I can't outdrive even my little 20" bar. I submit a nice and blurry iphone pic as evidence of the eyeball searing led intensity. :D

    Yea i have seen LEDs. Relative intesity is good no doubt.

    But they aren't as good..just aren't man.

    Not yet....I have no doubt they will surpase HIDs and big lamps, i know it'll happen. But it'll cost 2-3x as much to get LEDs that do this for less then 200 bucks..
