52 serious wheels on 2009 tacoma

Concerns about the 52 series wheels on my 2009 tacoma. I needed to buy 1/4 spacers so that the wheels don't rub on the caliper and I needed longer studs. My concern is the wheel not sitting "flush". Is this dangerous? Would you guys go ahead and mount them?

 

You mean not sitting flush to the fender, like sticking out further?

 

They fit fine, they clear the fenders fine. The mechanics concern was that if I was to hit something hard like a curb or a pot hole that the wheels studs will break off. He didn't want to be responsible.

 

Are you meaning mount the rims with the stock studs that really are not long enough?

 

I put longer studs. 1/2 inch longer. That lug nuts the spacers and the studs are fine. The center of the rim is the mechanics concern. He says the wheels are only being supported by the wheels studs. In the the event that I hit something hard he is afraid that they will sear off.

 

What size tire are you going to run? I think it will be fine if I understand correctly.

 

What kind I spacers are you using? Are the wheels hub centric, and that's why he's worried that they aren't supported.

 

if the wheels are not in contact with the center hubs I understand the mechanic's concern. The center hub helps keep the wheel itself from moving around. If the spacers are just "washers" that push the wheel out then it may pose a problem over going with "hub-centric" spacers that bolt on and include a new center hub to have the wheel be around.

I think the smallest I have seen is 3/4 inch, which in all honesty shouldn't be that big of a difference for wheel clearance?

Sounds like you will need hub-centric wheel spacers. As long as the wheel spacer still leaves enuf room for the rim to center on the hub will work also but doughtfull there would be enuf.

 

Bingo you just answered your own question my friend. I've had mine on for 25,000 miles and no problems what so ever. The tire will stick out of the fendersome though.
