Price is no option and mileage doesn't matter - what do you pick? 285/70/17 options only. ;)

I love the bfg all terrains and the nittos, on my current truck I didnt have the budget for bfgs and went with yokohama all terrains, they were $650 for the set and im pretty impressed with them. I've gotten decent wear out of them but keep in mind I rotate tires every 6-7,000 miles. Im about to buy a new set of all terrains and theyll most likely be yokohama again. Then again if price is no object I would go with BFG or Nitto.

EDIT: I previously said kumho but I meant YOKOHAMA, sorry again guys had a brain fart

A lot of good options. If you want a more aggressive all terrain look at duractracs, cooper st maxx, kelley safari tsr. Some more highway friendly all terrains would be cooper at3, cooper atp, hankook dnyapro atm, falken wild peak. Those are what I would look at first.

in my personal off roading experience, these are the best.. also offer smooth on road ride, good mpgs, and last quite a long time..

Front windows matched tint, weathertech front husky rear mats, K & N CAI, Borla cat-back exhaust, 265/70/17 Goodyear Wrangler Authorities, fog light anytime, 5100s up front set at 1.75" on stock coils,
Had great results with a set of Kelly Safari TSRs, but they are on the more aggresive side of all terrain. I would say Goodyear Wrangler Duratracs are in the same category as the Kellys, even though they are both classified as all terrains. If price isn't a problem, I would definitely recommend E weight rating and 10 ply. If you are looking for a less aggressive tire than those two then the BFG A/Ts are your next best bet, they last forever, but are definitely made for milder off roading.

I don't think there is a best. Need categories to break them down into .. There isn't one that is the best in all of those categories.

    Longest lasting AT
Best off road AT - Mud
Best off road AT - Snow
Best off road AT - Ice
    Best off road - Gravel
    Best off road - Sand
    Best on road performance

We currently run the Wrangler MT/R w/Kevlar on our Xterra, so looking for a high quality, less severe A/T for the taco.

I have been researching aggressive AT tires for several weeks now. The two tires I consistently hear GREAT reviews are the wrangler Duratracs and Cooper St Maxx. The two complaints I hear are:
Duratracs - some people claim they have soft sidewalls and are prone to punctures
    Coopers - are heavy.

But, as far as coopers are concerned, I think they are on par weight wise with other load E tires.

Just my 2 cents. I will be getting St. Maxx's in the next few weeks

As far as aggressive and tough At's I would say the St Maxx and it's cousin the Mickey Thompson ATZ P3 are up there, but they are heavier. I had not seen the Super Swamper vortrac until now, and they look good, also with 3 ply sidewalls but don't come in 265-75-16 size I use on their website. I personally have had BFG At KO's and now Duratracs on my Taco, for me the main difference between the 2 is the BFG's has lasted me twice as long mostly on pavement, are tougher for my type of off-roading(3 ply sidewalls) and air down and float better on sand since I think they were designed for that, I hear they suck in mud. The federal park beach I go to is an undeveloped 80 mile stretch with many debris and booby traps washed up from the gulf that can puncture a tire at any time. I have had many more punctures in my duratracs. They both suck in the wet pavement once they are worn some, specially from a cold standing start with no lsd. But the duratrac is supposed to be the best in snow, I wouldn't know living in San Antonio.

Then there's the less aggressive AT's(2 ply, less aggressive thinner sidewall, lighter) with better street manners but not as tough and don't look as cool, lol. Nitto Terras and it's cousin Toyo open country, Cooper AT3 and ATP, Yokohama Geolander, Falken Wild Peak, Bridgestone Revo 2, Genral grabber AT2(look like BFG's), Hankook ATM etc.

    That's great feedback, thank you!

We live in Ga where the famous red clay can be slick as ice when wet since it can be impossible to dig into. At our property in the mountains, we were defeated by it getting over a small rise in 4wd low with the rear locked and the MT/R's.

It would be nice to have a tire that was good on mileage and highway travel since it's an hour to the mountains, but we do mostly solo driving with the family and getting stranded is my only fear. With the Taco, we won't be going on as isolated trails, but we will be camping via RTT and need to be able to get back to civilization regardless of weather and conditions.
