I don't do any fishing so I wouldn't know. I haven't been to that trail in a few years but last time we went the creek was still pretty. Not ashy and was crystal clear.

I have been thinking the same thing...trying to talk the wife into doing some real camping with me sometime soon. I have never gone fly fishing before..is it possable to catch anything with just a regular rod and reel?

Yes, regular rod and reel will catch fish just fine. In some instances it actually works better.

2,4,or 6 pound test line, I see lots of guys using 8 pound and higher, it's too big. I use mostly 4 pound.

Mepps lures work pretty fair. The yellow ones with the black dots work well. You can't go to small. Trout have small mouths. Some of the biggest fish I have caught was with a tiny mosquito that I could barely tie to the line.

Honestly you can tie a fly to a regular rod, use a small casting bubble to get it out there and you'll have the time of your life. Most of my small stream fishing is like that. I save the fly rod for bigger rivers where you have room to swing that thing.
Skeeters aren't quite in yet another week or two for them to really hit hard woolly booger works good, yellows, browns, black for colors.

Go through the fly bins at Sportsmans and look for the ones that are almost empty.

For some reason dark lures/flies work well in murky water and flashy stuff works good in clear water, seems backwards but I'm not a fish.

    Do it.

I took a rental Yaris to an autocross once and won the novice class with it... returned it with some feathered tires and no issues.

I grew up in Michigan so I grew up with a spinner in my hand. Picked up fly fishing last spring and haven't looked back. So much fun; adds more of a sport to it, at least to me. As BDN said, there's no such thing as too small of a hook. It amazes me the size they bite on.

Agreed on the color of flies/lures also. My grandpa always told me when I was younger to match what the surroundings were (i.e. flashy bright colors in clear water and sunny, while using dark colors in murky waters and overcast skies). For some reason it works so I haven't questioned it.

Here's my last fish of last season in the Deckers area.
