This morning I go to start my truck, let it warm up a bit and then when I go to leave I notice that the CEL is on with the Trac off light... I right away say what the F**!!!
the truck has no power and wont go faster than like 20mph.. and so luckily my boss's shop isnt that far from mine, so I just continue to work.
I get home and plug it in to my OBDII scanner and the code reads air induction system valve 1 and 2 closed... Like it got stuck..

Has anyone had this happen? I checked the systems plugs and hoses.. But all was good. So I cleared the codes and everything went back to normal. I drove it around for alittle bit and everything was fine.. Soo Im hoping that it wont come back and happen again... If so its going straight to the dealer.

I did rev the truck kinda high yesterday, then shut it off.. maybe that got the valves stuck??? I just dont know... any insight would really help.

    Insight.
One of the worse codes to get. Effects performance as you found out .
Next time it happens do not clear the codes and get it towed to the dealer.
Tundras are having the same problem.
What was the weather and temp in the am when you started it ???

Actually I do remember alittle ice on the work truck.. So it did get below freezing last night. You think moisture is getting in them and freezing?

    It can happen again.
But with spring coming you may not see it untill next fall. I believe
There is an issue like you suspect with the valves. Moisture is hanging around the valve and freezing or hindering the movement.
Unfortunately, your going to have to let the dealer "touch" your truck.
They need to see this and get information from you and data from the truck. We had 3 engineers from toyota up here looking at a tundra for 3 days.
The more info they get fom a situation like yours the sooner a fix can be looked at. I think it's not as sensitive as the tundra so I don't think there are many out there with this. But under certain conditions I think it can happen.
Once the engine heats up and the pumps blow out the moisture, reset the light and it's like it never happened.
Next time, let them grab the info...

This isn't a good sign that I'm starting to see these posts about the air pumps. This happened to my truck 2weeks ago, I checked the code myself and verified it was the air pump codes only I didn't clear it as I wanted the dealer to verify as well since these pumps are a costly issue. Mine also happened on a cold evening and I think the Tacoma's are starting to have the same issue the tundra's have where moisture builds up in the pumps and freezes the valves so they become stuck. There is a TSB out for the tundra's that will re-flash the ecm to make the pumps run longer to evacuate any moisture in the system, I have not seen this for the Tacoma's yet. My dealer checked the code, verified it was the air pump system and told me they ran a test on the system and all was in good working order. I expressed my concern about us now entering spring and it might not happen again until next winter when I am out of warranty, nothing they could do for me but not my concern and the issue. She also told me it might just be and intermittent issue, I bought a 30k truck so I wouldn't have intermittent issues.

I'm just hoping we are not going to be in the same boat as the Tundra guys, seems Toyota cannot figure out how to make these pumps correctly.

My '12 just did this the other day with 28K. Only I was able to drive it. It did seem a little sluggish, but getting on the freeway was no problem.

Took it to the dealer and they blamed the gas cap, ran a test and everything checked.

Why it disabled the TRAC I have no idea….??

It's engineered into the software. When misinformation is sent the ecu's that have a part in using that info start to ignore it. They become disabled untill the situation is fixed. It is really stupid they disable systems that could run without certain info. You leave the gas cap loose on a rav, you lose 4wd.
This code will disable 4wd in a tundra as a well.
There is nothing wrong with the air pumps themselves IMO. It's moisture contamination. Going to be interesting how they go after this....

Are you sure you had air pump codes ?

I had the air pump codes for sure, I checked it as well as the dealer. My truck had 27k on it when this first showed up. To me if the pumps are getting moisture build up that is an issue with the pumps. Toyota supposedly redesigned the pumps to eliminate this issue and so far there remedy is proving it doesn't work. The Tundra guys have it the worst as those trucks go into limp mode and you can barely drive it.

Havent had any air pump problems on my 13.. although it does make a weird vacuum cleaner sound for a second or 2 after i turn the truck off. Its been doing that since it rolled off the show room floor so i assume its normal.

they need to make some sort of blow off valve that blows out any moisture that could be in the valves when the truck is shut off.. :)
    Problem fixed!!

Yep. Mine happened @4am in single digit temps. I cleared it with the scan gauge and took it in the next day...come to find out there was a ton of other Tundras with the same issue that same day.

I'm interested cause we haven't had one of these in our shop yet. We had some weird weather lately and nothing has come through the door.
    Tundras on the other hand......

yeah, the service guy said that this was the first tacoma that has come in with this problem.. hes had a bunch of tundra's
maybe its because I have short tube headers?? I doubt it, but who knows...

Cant wait till they call me, to tell me what they found.

I had the same thing happen to my brand new 13 the day I drove it off the lot, it had the cel and the trac light on and it was in limp mode. I drove it back to the dealer which was right down the street. They looked at it and said it was some sensor which they replaced with a new one from a new taco on the lot. I drove it for another 2 days and it did the same thing in the morning as I was going to work. I took it to the dealer which is right around the corner from my place and told them to look at it and tell me what the hell the problem was as it only had 125KM on the odometer. I met with the dealer after work and they had said that it was a problem with the same sensor they had just replaced. I then demanded to speak with the owner of the dealership and told him that I didn't want the truck anymore as there was something wrong with it. After a lot of back and forth with the owner he agreed to take the truck back and sourced another one from another province that was exactly the same as I had waited a month for this one to come in. I never had another problem with this new truck.

I highly doubt its because of your headers since others with stock manifolds have had the issue. My dealer wont replace the pumps on mine and just says its an intermittent issue. I have read that there is new software for tundra's that run the pump after the truck is shut down to evacuate any residual moisture. I wonder if they will take this route with the Tacoma's. Toyota extended the warranty on the Tundra pumps because its such a big issue and is a 4k repair for customers who were not under the warranty. Let us know what you find out.
