Well an update followed by a write up eventually, got replacement diff in on monday, installed on tuesday, and diff back on wed was up till 1 in the freaking morning but new axle seals new diff and one hell of a clean rear axle. No one spec of royal purple in the taco trying red line in the engine, and lucas through out the rest. So far new rear diff seems alot more peppy than the other diff swaps have had.. Good thing? As stated before pics to follow cause i got so good shots of what not to do in a diff swap and what to do lol... To be continued when im not half cut

 

hey Tony - I went ahead with the Core/Hurst shifter. Thanks for the info before.

 

Cool let me know what you think. I wojld strongly suggest hitting up wes for a custom wood shifter as it gets rid of the tranny noise nicely with style. That plastic ball it ships with is garbage.

retro & I really like the grip.

Hey how are you liking your 4.56 gearing with the current 33s? would you change anything doing it again with keeping with 33s that is

 

X2? Why didn't you go with 4.10s?

 

There are no aftermarket 4.10's to purchase. Ecgs only has 4.10's available when they get 4 cyl thirds in for regear.

 

^^^ wrong they have 4.10 for non elocker thirds. But my over all plan was to go to 35's but 33" with 4.56 is way to much torque for everyday driving. My hawkapilitas of two years are screwed, now to remember stage 4 cc clutch with 4.56 gearing my truck is very touch and go and hate it. But i know it wont break

 

I know they have 4.10's but the only time they get them is when they regear 2nd gen 4 cylinder thirds. Nitro and yukon dont make 4.10 gears for ours truck.

 

Buddy had option for his non elocker / standard version ill check tomorrow when i care enough but for now beer take priority..

Just so you know all 2nd gen thirds are the same except for the elockers. I mean the only place to get 4.10 gears for our trucks is a 05+ 4cylinder tacoma. When ecgs regears any thirds from a 4 cylinder truck they keep the gearsets to sell to us v6 guys. So if you buy 4.10 gears from ecgs they are selling good condition used gearsets. Im pretty sure they xray the gears before selling as well.

 

So they do sell 4.10 gearing for normal 2nd gen tacos ^^ which stated or i at these think i did

 

I never said they didnt sell them I just said there are no aftermarket companies selling them so they are harder to come by. Ecgs doesnt always have 4.10's.

If I was sticking with 285's I would have hunted down the elusive 4.10 gears.
4.56 w/ 35's in a manual trans drives like stock now.

As soon as my 315's wear out its either a full blown 35x12.5 or jumping to a skinny 36/37. Cant make up my mind lol
