    Question about replacing cv boots.
    I am replacing the boots on my cv axles. I have a Haynes manual and it says to remove a c clip on the drive shaft to remove the tripod. Then pull the boots off. My problem is, there is no c clip or a place where one would be

    Alpine head unit and CD changer
    Purchased upper and lower ball joints and the outer tie rods from the dealer yesterday.

    I initially thought the MOOG quality was better, but based on the forum thread discussion the quality of MOOG products (ball joints) and the fact I'm always loosing track of which MOOG parts have zerks to be greased every 5,000 miles.

    Mine look currently look okay, no boots appear ripped. However, the lower ball joint steel has completely turned to orange rust after a year. I thought there was a decent coating on them before I had them installed. Guess I was wrong.

    So the only parts that will stay MOOG are the inner tie rods and my coil springs. I'm kicking myself for not using factory parts when I replaced this stuff the last time.

    I am still debating on whether to spend another $250 to replace the inner tie rods with factory ones. Anyone have any insight here?


    Also purchased a new battery tie down as my original is crumbling apart.

    It is hidden by the tripod. Slide the visible c-clip down the shaft, away from the tripod. Pound the tripod down the shaft in the same direction you slid the visible c-clip. Pound it down far enough and a c-clip should appear where the tripod was.

    You lower the unsprung weight mounting them boot-side down, but you put the shaft in a situation where it will see more road grime and wear out the seals quicker.

    I have it on mine. Chose it for durability. Its a harsh environment. Mine is to the front diff so only 4' long maybe. You're going to the rear so a lot more exposure.

    The billies can be mounted either way because they are gas charged, not the old style emulsion shock.

    I choose to run mine shaft down. The shafts are hardened steel and are pretty much impervious to road grime. And I disagree about the seals. More likely to get contaminant build up on the seal and wear them when the shaft is on top. Especially if you use the boots. Mud and crap will get trapped on top of the seals and cause wear.

    I encased the stock air line in 1/4" fuel line. I only had to do the front which was about 3'. Not sure how easy it would be to thread enough air line for a rear locker.

    Wrapping the hose in fuel line is a damn good idea. Will definitely be more durable that way.

    Yeah, you might be surprised how much crap is caught up inside those boots. I never run shock boots at all anymore. The shafts and seals seem none the worse for wear.

    You can also cut the back side of the boot, but it's not really needed.

    I thought I had a picture of it but can't find it. I also used a 1/2" metal sleeve to slide over the diff fitting and the end of the fuel line. worked out pretty well. Have to remember to snap a picture next time I've got the skid down.

    hey guys, this is my first post. ive been creeping around this forum for a long ass time, just lookin for cheap ways to make my 04 4WD v6 trd as bad ass as possible. i finally am starting to save up some money for some simple mods. i have already customized my mudflaps, they are pretty badass but thats about it hahah. i have a ton of things i wanna do and if this isnt the right place to discuss that. lemme know

    Well you already have the best model. Best ways you can make the truck better for cheap is aggressive tires and making sure your locker works. That is if you are wheeling and the truck isn't just a mall crawler.
