I suppose this could be a fairly simple mod to eliminate interference/limitation of the e-brake cable to adding a larger leaf pack or AALs.

It just occurred to me as an "a-ha" moment, so I haven't looked into details.

Has anyone done it? Any extra/new parts required? Can I just reroute the 01 with some minor homemade mods? Or do I go pull the 03/04 setup out of a salvage yard?

I have seen it on 03s, but I do not know what year the changed it. Maybe even 02?

One key thing I see right away is that the 03 has a cable guide bracket attached to the lower diff, whereas the 01 has no provision for this, and it would need to be welded on, I suppose.

For reference, 01 e-brake cable is routed over axle (what I have):

Whereas the 03+ has the e-brake cable routed below leaf packs, which does not limit leaf pack options height.

The backing plate is the difference there. trade mark for his in moab hes got my old 03 set up. That way he can run his ebrake again.

also flip the cables side to side gives you tons of room to lift and flex out that rear axle without pulling on that cable.

Wouldn't it be easier just to make a like extension out of angle to attach to the e brake lever on the drum to get the cable up off the leafs?

    wut I can't visualize this.

    And, derp, forgot about this.

Basically, go higher which is good in terms of protection, and looks damn easy.

This is super easy and cheap.

That's exactly what I was thinking about. I need to do that, my cable is resting on top of the springs

I have the Wheelers 5-pack, which is close right now, and am looking at the AAL for that, which would probably put it in contact. Or Dakars, and that would contact without question, I imagine.

I have the all pro standard pack, and my cable is petty tight over the springs. I wouldn't be surprised if it was causing the shoes to just barely drag.

Damn, konsta, monte you guys are fast and beat me to the punch! Yup different backing plates as the wire itself is different lengths.

I personally would rather have it over the leafs than under it but I would think if you wanted more room just take a few small pieces of metal and cut the tabs and weld the piece of metal on and just move the little cable loops up an inch or so

I haven't had an e brake for over a year, so I forget how adjustable the cable is

Where can you buy the inner ebrake cable on an 30/04? I am swapping my rear end casings but the axles in the new ones are from an 04. The mechanism is like the one on the 03/04s but when I bought the rear end it did not come with the brake mechanism. My 01 fits up just fine, but the inner cable does not reach the drum.
    Thanks.
