Squeaky Dakars : Any advice from others with the Dakars ?

If you can't find Pond liner, or shower pan liner. Try to find a "Downhill" or DH tube at a bike shop. Much thicker than a regular tube. Almost like a motorcycle tube.

I'm going to try this as soon as my garage is cleaned out from doing renos. Dakars have been squeaking for a couple years, I figure I'm used to it now.

 

So OZ is your solution still the best thus far? I will be installing my Dakars soon and just want to fix the problem before I even install them.

That's the exact kit I bought. It works good and it's nice because since it's a patch kit, it's sticky on one side to help keep it in place.

What is that material ? Is it EPDM ?

 

Before I put my Dakars on the truck I took them apart to put the Center pin collar in (incase shims are needed later after the install). While apart I followed what the OP (OZ) recommended adding some EPDM to certain locations of the Dakars (Front near bushing)
I went ahead and added some extra EPDM near the rear as well and added some Lube in both areas as well as between the leafs.

I have some leftover neoprene/rubber gasket material that i'll try...next time i'm motivated to crawl under the skirt.

 

Just finished mine using EPDM pond liner repair kit. Just like OZ showed and its the best silence I've ever not heard. I did it with the leafs on the truck and I didn't have to jack it up or anything.

I used a hammer, long screw driver, pry bar, and the pond liner repair kit.

I'll keep track as to how long it lasts and if/when it moves.

 

I've had my Dakars for almost a year now(12K miles). At first the squeak was really bad; every couple of weeks I was spraying lube. That lasted about 3 months. Then, I just let it go, save for pressure washing every now and then. Slowly the squeak became less and less and has all but stopped.
I noticed the way the ends are cut, leaves a sharp raised edge. I'm thinking I might have worn them down enough that the squeak stopped. I'd be curious to see if there are any telltale wear marks on mine.

 

I've had mine for about 9 months now. I never did anything about the horrible squeaking - just planned on living with it until I could put rubber pieces in. I noticed that the noise would reduce after running it thru a carwash. Now I hardly wash it - no point - winter. But lately, I've noticed that the squeaks are mostly gone I'm hoping the issue has resolved itself.
