FYI engine cover bolts

Hey just wanted to send an fyi out on the bolts that hold the lower engine cover on. This is the cover needed to be removed on the 03 taco's to get to the oil filter. MY taco is just going on 3yrs old and these bolts get kinda rusty, (truck is garage kept too) yea leave it to the dealer to snap them off in the frame.
yea it's my fault for falling for the $18.99 oil change special.

After bitching to the dealer they just drilled out the bolt. put tie wraps on to hold it. Did'nt even try to drill and tap it. Don't let this happen to your Taco.

I had a new nut welded on the frame, replaced all the bolts but the moral of the story is put some Anti-Seize Lub. (Permatex) on those bolts! you won't go through the hassle I had.

Banshee good idea, is it mounted in the wheel well area? I wil have to look into that, Thanks

 

Thanks for suggesting a very simple process that will save us a lot of pain . You may also consider galvanized or stainless steel nuts and bolts. Anti seize compound? I would have never thought about that one.

 

Does this use the stock filter?

i have an 03 all you have to do to get to the oil filter is turn your wheels all the way to the pass side unclip the wheel well liner and it is rite there

 

I have a 04 and all I have to do is turn the wheels and it is right there too what engine is is your 03?

 

i have an 03 trd 3.4 4x4

 

I just reach up from underneath and twist the oil filter out. It's a bit of a squeeze for my hand, but it's doable. I have an '03 3.4L as well.
