Some days are good, some aren't. Haven't figured out exactly what works. I've been working my current schedule 4 yrs now. My sleep comes in 2 to 5 hour periods. I generally sleep 2 to 3 hrs in the morning when I get home, get up for a few hours, then sleep another 3 to 4 hours in the evening before going back in. :notsure:

On my days off, I can stay up until 10 or 11 PM, and I'll still wake up between 2 and 3 AM. When I feel like taking a nap, I do.

    Hey Rob.

    How are ya?

The slowness allowed me the extra time to go play with one of our Boeing 777s so that was cool considering the conversation in the other thread. :D

    Wow..

Probably the worst working weather ie seen in quite some time; blowing ice/snow/rain/sleet/spray..

Probably had gusts around 50/60 Knots.

Got the gear back alright, everyone got knocked down by what had to have been at least a 25' swell..

TV antenna came hurtling to the deck from 80' up in the mast.. Lucky it didn't hit anyone.

Now I'm hanging out in my nice warm engine room, watching my fuel levels and on TW!!

    I'm good Joe.

So, what's your theory on the missing 777? :stirthepot:
 Glad no one was injured. Are ya'll heading in, or have to stay out longer?

Wow man be safe. But, also feel free to post some pics (if you can be safe getting them).

Not sure, I posted what I thought from the git go...777s don't just fall out of the sky from FL350 without some warning.

Regarding the ACARS and health monitoring...you hear everything from the news but, I the airlines I've worked at and work at now, we don't/didn't have to have the service provided to our MOC / GOC but, the manufacture of the airframe (Bowing) and engine (in our case GE) still have the data reported to them. RR does the same thing... I really think rather or not the aircraft is in tact, it was manually taken out and not some failure.

    Your thoughts?

Tried to get the GoPro setup, but it iced over in about 3 mins..

Yup, we're on the way into Kodiak, wind has come down a little bit - although, we're still icing up.

Nice and warm in the wheelhouse..almost feels like you're watching a movies outside sometimes..

I'm leaning towards manually taken out the longer this thing goes on; and even more towards hi-jacked and hidden somewhere. Unless it was hijacked, and subsequently crashed quite a ways from the last known location.

For what purpose is what worries me. No organization has claimed responsibility, so what's the rest of their plan?

Initially I was thinking some sort of catastrophic failure, but surely something would float to the surface and have been located by now.

How familiar are you with air operations in that area of the world? I can't see something of that nature being pulled off in North American or European air space, or for that matter even over the North Atlantic. But I don't have any experience or knowledge with operating in that part of the world.

 Talk about surround sound and 3D experience.

Do ya'll have to bust the ice off the boat, or is it not that severe?

I'm guessing ya'll had a good haul?

    Ice isn't that severe.. Yet.

Need to educate myself some more on that missing 777. It seems pretty intriguing thus far..

    Under the wing...

    Checking indication...

YEE haw found some flap rigging to do on a MD/DC 10.

That part of the world... I only interacted with crews flying KUL when I took over aircraft routing & scheduling in a previous life on the B777. Then it was only in terms of early alerts for the most part using the aircraft health monitoring. I would occasionally swap tails but, our service was limited and not non-stop to the US instead flying to SZX, HKG or the other direction to DXB. The crew communication was via sat phone or sending text through ACARS. I can tell you we had/have live tracking but, can't tell you if it's aircraft/GPS or local radar.

That part of the world, has for a while been transitioning to religions not as friendly to the US so I understand your concern.

The one thing that has me scratching my head is this beacon that is supposed to turn on when submerged in salt/fresh water. Is this located externally on the plane?

Rich depending on the configuration there would/could/should be several. The ships fixed ELT (emergency locator transmitter) and in most cases one on each of the slide/rafts. Figure at least 8 in addition to the ships ELT (in the slide rafts). The ships ELT will transmit with water contact or impact of a certain G level or can be manually tripped.

ON EDIT: Rich I believe on most 777s the ELT is located in the upper aft cargo area behind a removable panel. It also depends on the airline as they help decide aircraft configuration during build and it can be changed once the airline has that specific aircraft on its ops spec. Of course not being a domestic airline, Malaysia Airlines could be totally different. In most commercial airlines it's not something easily accessible.

    Right on!!
15 mins and my weekend starts. Filled the mini fridge with guiness pub draft and some local pale ale. Going to work in my gameroom. Building a music studio.
Have a great weekend everyone and be safe.
Might hop on and see what's going on later.
Posting and talking about all this plane stuff makes me want to load my flight sim x up on the comp.
