Hotrod53- I hate to say it but I was sort of thinking the same thing, considering they tried replacing pulleys before figuring out if it was the engine- :(

New engine, can't blame the techs for not getting there training in on these motors, dealership probably didn't want to expense it. The dealership can expense it and write it off.

Good luck with your truck, man. Sorry to hear about such massive problems on so new a vehicle. That sucks balls.

If it's any consolation (probably not), my next-door neighbor drove home a brand-new Ford F150 a couple of weeks ago and his wouldn't go into reverse (35 miles on the odometer). They came and got it and replaced his transmission. Don't know if he got the extended warranty, but I hope so. That's what I would expect at a minimum.

Couple days ago we passed Ford Focus surrounded by fire trucks. Somebody must have been driving from dealer because car was new and had foil on wipers and sides, but already had private license plate. It was leaking some fluid so Fire guys closed half of the road. Talking about bad purchase.

I dont think that has anythign to do with training. Its more of ability to troubleshoot. FSM is available to techs all it takes is couple looks to see whats located and where.
It sucks for OP and does not make better but I bet if he had better luck he would got tech that had figured out whats wrong with it.

I think he meant to say "this engine has been available for a over a decade so there is no reason for these issues" :D

Id demand an entirely new engine if something went horribly wrong and their findings reflect that. Did you change your oil around 500 miles because of engine breakin?? Were you hard on the truck for the first few thousand miles?? If you were that would have possibly have caused the engine to develop these problems.

They should have just replaced it with a whole new engine, installed it and connected the wiring harness. That way they could have done full inspection back at the factory. It sounds like they tried to cut corners and lost on that bet.
After all this time and aggravation you really need a new truck to compensate you for all you have been through.

Is the noise coming from the right side (passenger side) or the driver's side ?

    Something is sounding wrong here

Today’s update and it’s a doosie: I went to the dealership today and the Area Field Rep was there to see my truck. My Service Manager told him that I was there and he was not happy, he wanted to know what I was doing there being that I already filed a lemon case!

I later received a call from Toyota following up on my lemon case, I was told that I can confirm the case, file for arbitration, or both. I did confirm the lemon case, not sure what to do about arbitration yet. I found out that the area rep told Toyota, and I quote “I looked at numerous like vehicles and they all have this noise, therefore there will be no more repairs done to this vehicle for this issue”… nice huh? I explained that I owned an identical vehicle for 175,000 miles and a friend currently owns a ’14, neither vehicle makes this noise therefore I STRONGLY disagree with his statement!

I was asked what I expected, I said I want what I paid for. Replace my vehicle with a new one of the same model, color, and same options. If you can’t supply me with the options that my truck had because the standard options changed, upgrade it to give me that option, in particular the dimming mirror with compass and temp, that’s a MUST. If you need to give me the better radio, then upgrade it. I also expect compensation for remounting and rewiring my LEER cap, replacing my door step protectors that are glued on, replace my Weather Tech vent visors that are glued in, compensate me for the backup camera mirror to radio kit, and reinstall my pin striping that I paid Toyota to do.

I’m expecting an “acknowledgement letter” in the mail within 30 days and I was told to possibly expect phone calls if they have questions. I was told that I can start arbitration by a third party as well, they will provide a binding resolution in 45 days. I told Toyota that PA law allows me to enlist the help of a lemon law attorney at their expense and that I would reserve that option pending a favorable outcome.

Here is where Toyota becomes a hero or a zero… stay tuned. My original short block is on a pallet and ready for shipment to the mother ship.

Got a video of my truck this morning, not the best quality. I move the camera to the drivers side at around :55 and you can clearly hear the noise. Sound familiar?

I would definitely add this to the lemon report and a expense report to try to recoup these cost from Toyota or the dealership. JMO.

I never understood why if you buy a vehicle especially an expensive truck they give you a cheap ass car as a loaner. My buddy had his brand new F-250 in the dealership on and off for three months four months after buying it and they kept giving him a frickin' Taurus and a Fusion in the winter too. If I'm still paying for the truck than I want another truck atleast similar to mine (I know they won't give me another BAJA but atleast give me another doublecab Tacoma.

Good luck hotrod ... I read that and I was thinking 'wait the problem is moving'... didn't see how that could be LOL

Arbitration means that 'you' will have to 'compromise' ...

'Is the juice worth the squeeze ?' ... always comes to mind

Figure I'll add my video here as well. I've had it happen on and off for a while now.

Add me to the list

My background is in German vehicles so I wasn't sure what "normal" was for a Tacoma. I thought my noises were a little excessive.
