I've never been a fan of the plastic bed liners. Especially up here, the ice, snow, dirt, etc can make quick work of rusting the bed out underneath the liner. The professional liners (Rhino, Line-X) are obvious the best choice but for the DIY'er, are there any good, long lasting products?

I did a do-it-yourself bed liner in an old Ranger many years ago. I *think* the brand was herculiner. You had to clean the bed, sand the whole thing, clean again, then roll on (brush in some places). It took 2x as much as the label said it would.

It looked and worked fine, initially. It was much rougher than linex, so stuff slid less, but if you crawled in and out of the bed to retrieve things it was pretty abrasive. The more time went by the more and more of it that seemed to simply evaporate. After about 5 years there were many thin areas that the original bed paint could be seen through.

I had Line-x sprayed in my F-250 and much prefer it. I intend to do the same to my Tacoma in the next few months.

I've seen lineX sprayed over the plastic liner. I've also never heard of the beds rusting in 2nd gen tacomas....i love them

Edit: (i don't pay attention) just lineX it

    Wait. What?

Composite bed? The bed in Tacomas isn't made out of the same material as, say, the front fenders?

2nd Gen "crowd" jumped in trying to "learn" something :p

I have had the Toyota "drop-in" since my '02 was purchased..;)...It has come out twice; when I installed my 1st toolbox..........one of the J-straps dropped down behind it :( and when the dealeship did my frame swap in '09...Bed condition is very good with slight paint rubs only...

My Taco lived in NH for its 1st 12 years and has carried anything imaginable;snow ,sand/salt mix for my driveways, brick & pavers for my wifes "ideas",scrap metal from my assorted projects and finally the family furniture moves...:)

Yes it is scratched and worn , the tailgate piece needs TLC twice a year; double-side tape catches he!! BUT I refuse to drill and screw into anything...:D

Hopefully with the move to FLORIDA , both the bed and liner give me another 12 plus years..

Have never been a fan of plastic liners since they were available. Big plastic skating rink for anything put in there. Recycled tire bed mat for me since day 1. Is the bed scratched up inside after all these years??,,,absolutely.

    Started automatic. Swapped to manual
Horse stall mat .1 inch thick, not too slippery.Cut around wheel wells. Still rocking it since 95. You can pull out and clean every now and then. Also 6 ft. Cost was 75.00. Bed still very good up top. Underside bad.(off topic).
