What I can't figure out is if it's just the acceleration curve. I'm at almost 400,000km on my truck, which is roughly 250000miles. I've had my truck since about 360000km so I don't know if the problem developed with me or the before. Having said that, I would say that your hesitation problems developed earlier on. So, there's a definite almost bogging down feeling that only occurs for a couple seconds while in heavy acceleration? I'm rebuilding my motor next year, so hopefully I can fix the problem, but I'll do some asking around to see if I can get some sort of explanation.

i would just say its mostly when under load (specifically when going up steepish hills.) that i have the acceleration problem.. when I'm going up a hill its almost like it doesn't want to go into last gear and when i get it to go into last gear the rpms drop majorly like it can't keep up and then it switches back to the next gear down. so i just take it slow up hills and don't really try to force it. definitely let me know if you find anything. My problems developed while i had the truck. I've had it since 99000 miles.

Is yours an automatic? It's a smaller motor, so of course it'll require gearing down once the engine is unable to push in a certain gear, and these motors reach their peak HP @ high rpm's. I usually climb in third doing around 60km/h on a 11-13% grade, but right around 2200rpm the engine will bog as if it's trying it's hardest to get over the hump before 2300+rpm when it hits what one might call the motor's power band, 2500-3500rpm.

Yea automatic. Hmm I still feel like it should have more power. Maybe I'm remembering wrong but when I first bought the truck it didn't seem like it had problems going up hills at all.. The only things left that I could think is the lower half of my engine or the transmission.. (I've had a valve job & adjustment, takin apart the entire intake system, replaced almost everything else that it could be..)do you have vibrations at idle speed??

vibrations @ idle speed? No comprende. Like, while the truck sits and idles? Nothing unusual...

Yea like while it's in drive or reverse and im completely stopped I have slight vibrations.. It doesn't feel as intense as a disconnected vacuum line but it's noticable.

after re reading what I wrote I realized your confusion lol..

I think a little vibration is quite normal, and older motor won't run perfectly smooth. I get a little vibration/ hiccuping from the motor, but nothing I would need to worry about.

This made me feel better about how my engine runs.
    Thanks

Just saw this post while reading through my build haha..
Yea dakars. They are great leafs but the lift kit I got from toytec in no way shape or form prepared me for these.
Well I've thought about it a lot.. Probably over a year. I want to bob it because I used to use it as a work truck (plumbing). I'm in the office now as an estimator and don't do much hauling/labor type stuff and don't really want to go back to it. So I'm bobbing my bed as an excuse to not use the truck for work stuff haha.. Our company has a big Chevy truck with a long bed so I can just use that to haul/move stuff.
I'm probably going to bob it this coming weekend.. Maybe not since it's my birthday but for sure the weekend after. My CBI wrap around bumper matched to the bobbed bed is in the mail so no going back now lol..

In other news I did a few things to the truck yesterday/today. I took the sway bar off and got rid of some clunking from the end links. It rides so much better without that thing... Installed my timbren bumpstops which came out great. Cut the hole for my exhaust pipe a little bigger because the stupid thing was rattling like crazy.. Did a few spray paint touch ups.. Now if I could just get myself to change my damn transmission fluid lol..

here are the timbrens (even installed the plate and took out old bump stops.)

I got both my 02 sensors replaced and my MAF cleaned about three weeks ago, made a world of difference. You should look into that, apparently I had been driving with dead 02 sensors for quite some time without a code.

hmm interesting. I'll have to order me some 02 sensors.. they have 171k miles on em so i wouldn't be surprised. I clean my MAF every once and a while and it usually helps a little.

    thanks for the feed back.

The o2 sensors are supposed to be changed out every 100,000km's (70,000m?)

yeah it sounds like there probably due to be changed. Make sure you replace them with the same brand O2 sensor that the truck came with. if they are NGKs don't switch to Bosch. Sometimes Toyotas can be picky about those things.

    hmm good 2 know thanks.
Its funny how i can still pass smog with shot 02 sensors.. Maybe thats why I've always gotten about 14-15 MPG.. lol.. who knows.

hopefully ill be able to get this up the weekend after this one.. here is what i just got in the mail yesterday:

So few updates I got a maglight mounted in the truck (still needs batteries haha..), changed transmission fluid, almost finished my bed bob, got my CBI bumper mounted, installed 1.5" Bora spacers. (even fixed my front diff leak! was just the drain plug though haha..)

I decided on that location for the maglight because i didn't want random people on the street to be able to see i have a 30$ flashlight in my truck. Also it seems like if anyone wanted to sit back there it wouldn't get in their way very much.

No chunks of metal on the magnets at least.. unfortunately i cross threaded the drain plug and it got stuck in the pan so i couldn't tap new threads and get a new plug.. so until i get a new pan i put FIPG all over the drain plug and its held up surprisingly well so far.

First i took the bumper off, ground all the cracked bondo off, took tail lights off, and unhooked the wire from underneath the bed.

    Marked 13 1/4"

    Started cuttin

Boom. Cut the frame to match the CBI bumper. I made it so the top of the bumper is almost flush with the bed. It worked out really nicely actually the bumper literally sits on the frame.

Started welding it all back together. i ran out of wire 2x times haha.. went together a lot easier than i thought it would.

    Test fitting the bumper.

My neighbor suggested i use this fiberglass infused bondo. Worked really well actually.

Almost done. i finished welding the bed together just need to grind it down and finish bondo/sanding/painting. Got the bumper painted.

Then i got these in the mail..

Before spacers on the left after on the right

Also got diff drop in today finally and installed my RAT skid plate. Also did a bunch of sanding on all the bondo.. still got a lot of sanding left :( lol.

Random orbitals/DA Sanders make the process much quicker.

i was using a dewalt sander.. i wish i had one of those lol.. eventually it will come out nicely. Ive decided i don't care much about how the inside of the bed comes out because it will be line-x'd and you probably won't be able to tell after that. But the sides are taking a lot of time and it sucks that when i want to sand down low on the sides i need to take the bumper/tail lights off.

Yeah even with one it's a pain, I've never really been good with bondo, always seems to take a couple applications.

yea I'm not too great with it either but this fiberglass bondo worked pretty good for me.. I've used almost 2 full cans (the big cans) so far. Probably the most expensive part of the bed bob haha. Might need one more can of it too.

Edit: the first can i bought at auto zone or kragen and it was 25$ w/ tax. Bought the same exact thing at home depot for 15$ w/ tax the next day. what a rip off.
