I did receive a reply from him this evening. I will be honest, his phrasing seemed to be shock. It wasn't a flat denial like one would expect. you know, deny, get defensive, get offensive. He truly seemed shocked. I will be discussing things further with him to see what comes of this, and I WILL come back and update as this progresses. I certainly hope that this is not a mistake that I made in any way. I mean I have only had one bearing unit come back to the shop in 2 months, and it was his. I can't see how it was possible that I made the mistake on my end. Everyone knows me though. I try my hardest to give people the benefit of doubt until I can PROVE that they intentionally caused fault. We will have to see how this goes.

Good luck man, I hope this doesn't stop you from continuing producing those hubs! I love your work, and currently I'm saving up funds for the future to purchase through you for my 4x4 conversion! I like supporting other Marines, rather put my hard earned money to other vets out there.

Based on the title and tone of your original post in this thread, I'm skeptical.

Look at the condition of the piece that was returned to him. Gouged and rusted? Come on, how could you come to any other conclusion?

Okay, I've heard things going on like this before, but either this fellow
is comedic silly, or a you say a scammer.

Unfortunately, I have had the unfortunate privilege to have met both
    types.

I think that so far, you've been professional with him, I'd stay the
course, and see what happens. However, I'd keep the name of the state, and the city where you shipped that hub to. Keep it as a reference.

Because there is a third type of guy out there you haven't mentioned.

The guy who copies your work and claims it as his own.

    The only advice that I can give you is this.;
You should not only leave identifying marks on the equipment,
but take several photos of every assembly you send out, and keep
    them as reference.

That way, if this occurs again, you can keep people like this from
    wasting your time.

Thank you, and no, I have no intention of stopping making these. I will be here.

The point I was meaning was this: You know how sometimes you can SWEAR that you put your keys in your pocket, or on the counter? Then you can't find them and are looking all over to find them, SWEARING you put them there....then you find them on the bathroom counter and you remember OH YEAH!. Well I am one of those who makes mistakes like that. So giving the guy the benefit of the doubt until I can prove otherwise, the only possible explanation is that I mixed it up. I don't see HOW I could have mixed it up. It's been sitting in the same box since I got it. But again, I have done stupid stuff before. Just have to finish the discussion with him and go from there.

Good luck Bill! I like how you are dealing with this. It says a lot about you as a person. You have your opinion on the situation, but you're open to the fact that it was a mistake. I personally think he sent you his old 2wd one in hopes of getting a new 4wd one for his buddy's truck or his other ride.

i'm sending you a pm on my clutch issue,

THANK YOU, for all your help,

Ya man back in the day we sold lots of pre-'85 rare Euro parts through a small junk yard my bro had (Glendale, AZ), this happened several times when small enough parts were shipped for out-of-state stuff.. (Never had issues selling to Europe and Middle East, but that was rare)... but that was mostly dealt with credit cards (before paypal and great internet services). Most never got back to us, but some used their merchant powers and made life a bit aggravating (receiving not my parts back for warranty, dispute charges), you learn to be kind, yet vigilant.

    just installed your hub, perfect

OK. I know a lot of people have been curious how this is ending up. So according to the other person, they swear up and down that they shipped the correct one back to me. I can't find proof of any of this, as the box had an older bearing in it, even though the box had been sitting aside after it was opened, for a week. So I did a full parts inventory of the bearings and parts. Interesting here. I had exactly one hub, 4 bolts, one bearing, one seal, and one o-ring over the inventory list. Enough to build a 2wd hub complete.

So what does this mean? It means that there is a chance that I took the bearing he returned, that was not installed, and sent it to someone else to fill their order. I don't remember doing it, but having the parts to build EXACTLY one 2wd unit as excess inventory makes me question it. So, to give him the benefit of the doubt, I told him I would send him the correct 4WD unit. I can't really go anywhere else with this. Why would I have EXACTLY the correct extra parts to build the EXACT type of unit he returned? So the mistake must have been made on my end. So end result, he gets the bearing he ordered, and I will work on developing a better control of inventory, and shipping in and out. I think instead of having one location for in and out, I will get two areas, one for incoming, and one for outgoing.

    Honorable and professional approach, sir.

I was secretly hoping you'd smack him into the next zip code, but I think you have no other option given what you stated.
