How to get rid of severe smoke smell

I revieved my truck from my Father who is a chain smoker and after four years of constant smoking while driving everything smells horribly of smoke. I'm not a smoker but I've been around it all my life and have grown accustom to the smell, can't smell it but everyone who gets near her when I open the windows can smell it from a mile away. It's my first truck and I'm not sure how to attempt to get rid of the smell permanatly, so far I've wiped down all the hard surfaces with windex till they shine and he used a bottle of Fabreez and a crap ton of smelly trees to mask the smell. Any ideas???

I would take it to a car detailing I'm sure there is away to remove it. Or call a fire damage company they for sure can help you.

 

You could get one of those air ionizers that plugs into the cigarette lighter :ironic:

 

most shops have something for it. It's a sort of fan that circulates a lot of air through the car. Not too sure about it, I haven't had any experience, but it may be worth a shot.

 

Have you guys bought directly from that web site or is it available in stores?

 

I'm planning on looking into detailing but wanted to get a head start! And the fan sounds interesting.

I will! I think till it comes in I'm also going to try the coffee grounds.

 

There is a product here called 670 cleaner it can be used for anything from degreasing the engine to cleaning the carpets to putting in the washer with your clothes. It takes out cigarette smoke usually overnight. I smoke and have used it many times in my taco. I just spray everything down close up the truck and come back in the morning. Of course I'm no chain smoker either so the other product may work better.

I've heard sprinkling some baking soda powder on the carpet works. You let it set for a day or more, then vacuum.

 

Chemical Guys makes a oder destroyer. Works well for a scent. Smoke smell gets into everything. Maybe replace your cabin filter? Detail shops use a air inoinizer I think.

 

So far I went out today and got a whole can of coffee (the BIG one) and a large plastic container and have it sitting on my seat in the sun with all the doors and windows closed. I'll give an update in a few days.

 

Leave about a 1/2-1 cup of vinegar in the car, in an open container, at least overnight. Vinegar absorbs odors and it's supposed to do a surprisingly good job at removing smoke smell from cars.

your best bet, honestly..is probbaly just leave all the windows open for a week or so as long as its not gonna rain.
