What kind of manipulation are you using?

3rd it. A pretty bead doesn't always mean strong

 

I've had the pleasure of repairing other peoples welds that passed visual inspection, but separated from base metal before use. Appearance is VERY important, but more importantly, it's not what you put ON it, but what you put IN it.

 

What machine are you running that ln-25 off of?

 

Picked up a hobart 225 after selling my ranger with my old truck. Hobart has the 16 horse onan. Like it WAY more than my old GXT. Really wanted a ranger 8, but paid $2400 for the garage kept hobart w/ 50 hours on it, 400+ feet of leeds, 2 stingers, 2 grounds, lead reels, and on a skid ready to be turned into trailer. Picked up the feeder for $300ish iirc without the gun. Runs MIG & Spray arc very well. I can't run stick for shit anymore since I use this at home now

 

That's a damn good deal for that LN-25 and that Hobart. I like my GXT so far. Only thing id change is to have a dial with amperage from 5-250 instead of the 4 or 5 different ranges and a 1-10 fine adjustment. what year was yours? Mines a 2014 model I believe.

 

GXT was a '09 I think. Bought it new, just don't remember when. Had the 23 horse kohler. Rough running machine. Better than the new bobcats & hobarts IMO, but I think old onan powered machines are the way to go in terms of small gass machines.

 

Yeah has the same engine that mine does. If I'm not mistaken the bobcats have the same engine in them too

Yup yup. Bobcats, Rangers, & Hobarts are using the kohler now. The machine ran fine, just not as good as Hobart.

 

Careful what you wish for. You will drive yourself insane building shit...then you change your mind, and have to redo it

 

The main reason I went with the Lincoln was for the ability to hook up a foot pedal directly to it to the 8 pin remote for tig welding. It was $1000 cheaper than a Miller with that option.

 

I'd pick a Lincoln engine driven welder any day over the others, just got a great on the hobart. Saw some ranger 8s when I was looking, but were all $1500-$2000 with a ton of hours, and no leads. The remote is definitely a nice feature. May look into installing one on the hobart

I hate chop saws so my vote go's to the port a band if you get the swag table you will have a way better set up then a chop saw.
