2nd Tacoma, rust free frame this time. any other 6 spds outhere?

I have a 2010 4dr 4wd TRD package with 6 spd manual (about 30,000 miles). I'm having the same issue with clutch chatter (and squeak also). i've noticed with my truck I get chatter when the truck is cold and it is fine after it warms up a bit. i get the clutch squeal/squeak when it is hot outside (like 95 or above - it gets hot here). If I run the air conditioner vented to the floor it quiets the squeak significantly. I'm thinking about doing a minor lift for slightly larger tires with an AAL to the back and Hell Bent Steel 2.5 inch lift/level to the front. It would be interesting to see if the AAL helps the chatter problem; I was thinking I was going to have to replace the clutch.

 

By the way, as far as the pedal squeak goes... I was talking to an ex-toyota tech and he told me that at the shop they just spray white lithium grease on all the moving parts of the pedal.

It's not hot here yet, but I'll be trying that as soon as it's starts creaking again.

Gotta tell ya brother, I wouldn't trade my '06 6-speed MT for anything! I bought this Taco brand new(had 4 miles on it when I test drove it) and got a great price (1) because I walked in with the Edmonds.com pricing, and (2) because there were 5 new MT '06 Tacos getting no attention. I enjoy the sense of connectedness the manual trans gives VS an automatic. I've driven this monster across the country 3 times now; heavy snow, Black ice, monsoon rains, etc. I'm much safer knowing/feeling where every tire is...

I miss my TRD that Toy bought back. It was good but I wasn't ready to let 'er go. I was going to just keep her and run her along with a new Tacoma D.Cab anyway but I wanted to keep that TRD for the big mud big hills (yard and side work anyway) the tobacco fields and SNOWSTORMS!!! Always a blast!

Manual is the way to go! It feels nice to actually be operating the truck not having the auto shift for you It seems so many people want automatics though or to have the little "semi-auto paddle shifter" deal. It's not the same. I hope they never phase them out of the tacomas...

 

yes im getting an access cab baja MT.

no, we finally agreed on price and options after the first order deadline.. so they traded a dealership in KY for the rights to the tacoma they had coming. for some reason, the factory did not accept the order change request for that truck. last i heard they were trying for a second trade and change order request before finally just submitting a complete build order at the end of the month. i was hoping to get a change in and have the truck delivered by the time i got home from my deployment, but due to a few things it doesnt look like that will happen.

 

If you only have two pedals then your truck sucks

 

the rattle is the pleather boot when the shift is in the first,third, & fifth positions.
you can easily test it by noticing what gear its in when you hear it, then grab the boot & you'll notice that it stops. check it out!

 

Just replaced my 6 speed trans,clutch disk, press plate, release bearing, & rear drive shaft after 204k. there was nothing wrong with the clutch, just the release bearing & syncros in the tranny. there is no clutch chatter at all!

TRD Short Shifter is good stuff. Took me about two hours to install, apart from locating all my tools, and including the last hour where I took frustrated cuss-breaks from trying to get the lever to lock down.

You can get it from a dealer for around $275 (15% off coupons are widely available), or cheaper elsewhere. Order a new tube of form-in-place (FIP) gasket with it.

Plastic razor blades and some isopropanol solvent available at Ace make quick work of the old FIP gasket, without damaging any metal.

Use a drop cloth. Use it everywhere. FIP gets everywhere if you're not careful, and gets most places even if you are, and using isoprope to clean plastic/vinyl/seats is a no-no-no-no.

 

I will check on that, that's good advice, but I still think its a defective nob
