We had red light cameras a couple of years ago. Some idiotic public official put the continued use of the cameras up for vote and of course it was voted down. It was a huge shit storm considering the city was under a multiple year contract with the company providing the cameras. The city lost out big on that deal.

Last i read cameras in knoxville are going to be turned off or taken down. for being unconstitutional, since you can’t face your accuser(being the camera) so they are suppose to be turned off i think some time this year.

the company already tried to sue Knoxville because they made a law that the cameras could not give you a ticket for turning right on red. the company got really pissed off about it. also the tickets are $50 BUT the city only get $10 for every ticket, the other $40 goes to the company that owns them or what ever.

They're taking down the cameras in Baton Rouge because no one is paying the ticket. If you never log into the system they have no way of proving you ever got the ticket

Parts of Phoenix metro still have red light cameras. Yesterday after dropping my wife off at work, I pulled up to a medium size intersection. Saw the flashes go off to get one car and then a second later there was a 2nd car that ran it and hit a car. It was a crash worthy of this thread. I think they help, but not as much as they try to get us to believe.

I remember when Phoenix PD was introducing the first RL camera, on live TV a car ran the red light behind the mayor. I think 5 pd cars went after him.

Phoenix is one of the worst places for RL runners. When a light turns green, you wait to make sure EVERYONE has stopped before you go.

We take it to an extreme. Most people don't just wait a second and look, we wait 3-4 seconds to make sure EVERY car/truck is stopped. It is like their crappy car is committing suicide.

    It's just an intersection.
Technically, two intersections, cross-streets are both one-ways, but they are controlled by the same cabinet and phased to operate together.

Ignore the u-turn ramps, they are free-turning and irrelevant... and that is what freaks people out when they see them because it looks like the cars are on the wrong side of the road, but they are not signalized (that's the whole point, if you want to get from the eastbound frontage road to the westbound frontage road, you don't need to stop.

So what you are left with is a separated pair of very basic 4-phase intersections... the side street, the two primary movements, and one left turn movement.

Now take a look at some of the clusterfucks that Caltrans has done recently....

First one.... yes, this is signalized. The signal heads are VERY far from the limit lines and are programmed-visibility. It operates as a basic configuration, but the lane striping is extremely confusing, even in good weather. Throw in some rain and you can't see the striping... those nice sweeping curves are not in a natural position.

    CT-1.jpg

    This one?
If you're going to do loop ramps, do a cloverleaf and eliminate the signals.
If you're going to do signals, do standard quads.

I've gotten to where I run my GoPro every time I get in the truck. People in this state can't drive for fuck and someone is always doing something stupid. Figure it's just a little insurance on my part if someone pulls out in front of me or cuts me off. Hell.... I might even catch a meteor on it someday :)

    LOL...I didn't even notice.

I think DC had 7 or 8 up last time I was down there a few weeks ago. Everyone in my industry says Texas is booming. Guys from my company will be leaving for the 'Texpo' tomorrow.

The cranes weren't very active for this video, but you can watch them flipping around in the previous video.

When the cranes went up I repositioned the camera so they would be in the shot as well. :D

Houston is currently overrun with towercranes. construction in general, but the cranes make for a pretty cool skyline depending on what direction you look. it's just surprising to see them in such close proximity.

    aaaaaaaaaaand we're nerds....

First off...I'm not wishing any harm to come to you or your truck but could you slap a gopro on your hood and drive through the intersection so we can see what its like?
Are there any warning lights on the far side of the overpass to alert people to the traffic light on the near side? Or is the traffic light fully visible as you're approaching the overpass?

i've driven through that light a number of times. it's clearly visible. just people who think they are better than traffic lights/the law, and others who aren't paying attention
