I missed it, this weekend or next weekend?

I am in for either, gotta discuss it with the SO though.

So as far as my rig goes, I have a pretty good set of recovery gear (shackles, strap, recovery hitch) and such but obviously no winch and stock tires. I am more than willing to get it dirty but I have already read plenty about the stock tires sucking in snow. I can see why, they were obviously chosen to reduce road noise.

Yeah it's pretty far. I just don't want to get on the trail late and run into problems... I want to make sure there's plenty of time.

I want this to work for people, yet as Mike said I don't want to start too late as well. Plus if there is a better trail... We could always discuss it.

Just a suggestion, look more toward the FS roads off 90. Those are closer for most of the people than going out 2. Either way, I won't be there.

Bolt cutter tend to unlock the locks on gates. So do battery powered grinders.

I'm in, but we just have some roads to avoid. The website said that

"Most Forest Service Roads on the Cle Elum Ranger District are now closed to Wheeled Vehicles and open to winter recreation activities such as skiing, snow shoeing, snowmobiling and dog sledding"

but I think a lot of it is actually open. If you have a chance to dial up the ranger, it would help - I've been working through my lunch hour this week :p

I know when I was down in Colockum, there was a basic understanding that we wouldn't drive on any groomed snowmobile trails..

Basically a local club had an agreement with the state regarding when they were going to start grooming, and when wheeled vehicles couldn't go on certain trails. We were out a few days before the deadline, although - grooming had already started on one of our trails.. We turned around and picked another route. No big deal. Not worth the hassle of being a dick and totally messing up a groomer.

Dunno how that area is managed (Cle Elum).. But take a look at the Washington "Dot" trail management system.

damn.... just called that ranger number... all the trails are closed to wheeled vehicles for winter recreation. Other options? I know we explored a bit down in Olympia around High Steel bridge last February or so, any other options?
