255/85 R16 Owners Experience

They will fit. I've seen pics just can't remember where i found them.

 

St Maxx is E rated.

 

After following this topic for months I went with the 255/85 Cooper ST.

 

Sub'd In a month or so I'm getting 255s, anybody running them with wheel spacers? Pics?

Those are the stock steelies so 7" wide.

 

Thinking it's about time to get my truck looking and running the way i want it to. Here's hoping i can get some questions answered first.

255/85R16 Cooper ST-Maxx
16x8 ProComp 7089, 4"BS, -12mm Offset
Bilstein's w/ 885 Eibachs front
Bilstein's w/1.5" AAL rear

If i run those rims, will it help or hinder any possible rubbing? I'm looking for the bare minimum for banging, bending and patching. Still need full articulation.
Does running a 33" tire need a re-gear? I have a 6-speed standard, don't do a lot of super-slow crawling. How much of a power loss am i looking at?
Anyone have pics of a similar set up? I'm going with the 669$ Bilstein set up from Toytec.

That's going to hinder your stuffage. You're going to be all over the flares.

 

I'd recommend 4.5" BS and a more narrow wheel.

 

I'm running 16x8" wheels with 4.5" BS and I just barely clear the flares at full stuff and I think that has a lot to do with the fact that the wheels are cambered in at full stuff as well. Makes lock to lock pretty tight...

 

255/85-16 on 16x8 procomps

Ate the shit outa my inner fenders and cab mount. Trimmed up the fenders, now they only rub the cab mount every so often.

 

I have 16x8 Wheels... 4.5 Backspacing.. They gonna rub the shit out of my fenders..

 

When I remember I'll have to take pics of all the trimming I have done to fit at full stuff (I have super bumps which are a lot shorter than the OEM's). I beat the hell out of everything with a BFH as well and it still rubs a little at full stuff. My flares are basically intact though and my cab mount is untrimmed (doesn't rub on it). I should mention I also have a 1" body lift or I would be rubbing like crazy!

Very well. Apparently no rubbing at all at ride height. I had very very little rubbing at ride height. It's full stuff lock to lock that kills ya.

 

I appreciate it. I still got a ways to go on my 265 Kelly's before new shoes are needed. The 255 st maxx are my next set as of now. The look of the 255s are killer.

 

I should setup a macro to reply to this thread every 10 posts.

With stock wheels (16x7 5.25 backspace i.e. +32 mm offset) you can run 255/85-16 and not worry about tearing shit up. They don't come anywhere near the cab mount and they don't come anywhere near the fender flares... full stuffed, lock to lock... doesn't matter.
The only thing to worry about is the mud flaps - you might as well remove them.
And again, lift don't change a thing except ride height.

Does anyone know of aftermarket wheels with the same or similar specs of the stock wheels?
I have the base steel wheels right now and would be okay with painting them black, but would really prefer to have a different set of rims following more of an "expedition" look. Steelies are all good.
How about the ProComp Series 98?
Toyota FJ steelies in 17"?
Anything?

May have found a set of 16x7" black steelies on ebay, refurbished from a 2001-2004, just waiting to see what the backspacing and offset is. Fingers crossed.
