cv joint play..

Cant seem to find a answer.

How much play should be in my cv when I grab the centre and wiggle it around? Of course this is when it isn't ingauged in 4x4.

I am trying to locate a clunk when I go over bumps...have already removed my swaybar and checked ball joints and tie rods..

 

If it helps right now I have little to none..and my thought is that the cv is knocking into my diff when ibgot a bump...if that makes sense.

 

Bump anyone know. Is there supposed to be play or no?

 

If you have little movement your most likely fine, you dont want much just enough for rotation & slight back & forth movement, if sloppy time to start looking for replacement, just went thru this..

 

Iv go about 2nd movement. ..I did find the clunk its my carrier bearing. ...crap

 

Yeah, theres some aftermarket bearings out there cheaper , i went OEM $200 & change

 

Did the clunk sound like it was coming from the front of the vehicle?
