we are lucky living where we do! i get to drive down to pelfreybilt and get everything done instead of shipping. but i still paid $250 for the CVT shasta to my door. womp womp.

 

Do you guys use heaters? If so which ones?

Ive thought about a small propane based mr heater.... more for the lady when she joins and gets cold. Plus always nice to have in case of emergencies...

is it safe in the tent? ive heard several people say these things retain heat well to begin with.


so, on the flip side... are these things crazy hot in the summer?

 

They claim to be all kinds of tent safe... Id have it secured to be safe and also i was leaning towards the Portable buddy as it looks much more stable. They also have an emergency shut off should they tip over or oxygen depletes.

Wouldnt want it on all night, but its nice to have a heat option. Get the tent warmed up a bit before bed sort of thing then perhaps body heat would do the rest. Also have it in the awning or annexe to warm up from a day hike or rip out on the ATV.

I haven't used my RTT in the summer yet(bought it last fall) but from what I've seen in te winter(South Carolina winter lol) it does pretty well to the cold without me opening all the flaps that make it look cool in the pics people put up. I can only imagine it'd do really well in te summer, all the flaps circulating Air.

 

Mine is not bad in the summer. Find some shade and it's best but most are ventilated well. I leave windows open in the summer and have a little battery operated tent fan to keep air moving on non windy days.

I've never needed one. It's cold when you jump into your bag just like tent camping but with two people it should heat up pretty fast.

 

Iv also been looking for a heater for the tent.

I think that little buddy will be the one I get. I like how it runs off a 20lb tank.

Seems like a great idea in case of a cold rainy day you could sit around and play cards or whatever in the annex room.

As for safety I'm just gonna build a heat shield it sits on and straps into so there's no way it could tip over or melt/catch things on fire.

 

In my experience in 10F to 20F weather, you can expect the RTT to be maybe 20F warmer than the outside just due to body heat and the quality of the tent material. I also use a Mr Buddy heater (MH9BX) when it is real cold, or an electric oil-radiator when I have RV electric or similar. Again, due to the better construction, the tent retains heat very well so a little goes a long way. Just be aware that even though "safe", a RTT has little area where you couldn't accidentally knock something against the heater potentially causing an issue.

My last camping trip with my little boy using the OzTrail 375, I ran 2 of the electric oil-radiator units in the sunroom area and it kept the entire tent in around 50F or so with it about 25F outside.

In the summer, and I don't do much "hot" weather camping, the RTT has great ventilation due to design, and the fact it is up off the ground. Typically there is a better breeze the higher up you are. But having some sort of a fan can't hurt, just to move the air around if it is completely still outside.

Again, just my experiences, others may vary.

 

I bought a RTT the month after the meet after that shit show haha.. RTT is supadupa dope..

I wouldn't mind a Little Buddy heater. I would say if you use ANY kind of heater other than electric that you also have a carbon-monoxide alarm in the tent.

This heater idea is 99% for the lady and the other 1% emergency.
