Hi guys, Vbibi hire with my litle question,
I had my truck for litle over 3 mo. now and I check the oil ever so often to check in the use of oil as the engine breaks down. Now I have 3200 milles
and the oil is still 1/16" over the high mark. This engine does not use any oil? It is good or bad? I intend to change my first oil at 5000 as per Toyota recomendations. Her first oil change is gona be Mobil 1 syntetic.
    Please help>
    take care

It's a brand new/high tech engine- If it was using that much oil already I'd be worried...

Mobil 1 seems to be a popular choice....Synthetic fluids for the drive line gears is a good idea too..

I am hoping that using oil will not be an issue until way late into the vehicles life span and not even then actually. NO losing or using oil is a good thang

Pretty well built motors... I'm at 41k and haven't seen any indication of oil consumption.:)

No it isn't. If the engine does not consume any oil, it means it is not lubricating the rings. Any normal gasoline engine must consume some oil in the normal course of operations.

Most people with engines that consume very little oil (but enough to lubricate the rings) just don't notice because either the level drop is so slight as to be insignificant between oil changes, or because the lost oil is being replaced by contaminants (fuel, water, etc.).

Actually, he SHOULD follow the owners manual. Just because you and I choose not to and do it early doesn't mean that's what he SHOULD do.

Obviously, when an engine is "losing" oil it's either leaking it or burning it. Both = BAD THANG.

    ^ + 1

my girlfriends Honda is burning oil like crazy and I do not want that to happen to the taco. I was using synthetic in my other truck and changed every 10k miles and never had burning or losing issues, at least not enough to require topping off between changes

I am sure that you are consuming an undetectable amount of oil, but if it is a noticable amount you should be worried. Good idea to go with Mobil 1, I have used it for years.

Wrong. See the above posts about why all engines consume some oil. It's completely normal for many engines to consume as much as a 1/2 qt every 5000 miles.

Mine consumes no noticable amounts to me... pretty impressive as my G35 would burn an 1/8 quart after about 4k.
