I'll be doing it this way. I just know there is something out there that would work or could be made to work.. I'll keep looking, that's just how I am.
Also added a b&m cooler in the factory location. :)

There are the shop-level machines, but they are hardly affordable for someone just working on their own vehicles.

It's a big risk trying to find something that "could be made to work"... you need to consistently and reliably measure what's coming out and replace exactly that much going back in or you end up underfilling or overfilling.
You only have about 4 quarts to play with before your pump sucks air. That's not good, and could cause issues in the valve body.
You also can't apply suction to the pickup, so using two pumps with a common shaft aren't going to get the job done.

Remember, the automatic transmission is hydraulically operated by the ATF in the valve body. The lubrication qualities of the ATF are secondary... it is primarily a hydraulic fluid.

Considering that a pan dump and refill every 30k is MORE than Toyota recommends, or doing a full fluid exchange like you are wanting to do every 60k is complete overkill.... the old method of run it a couple of minutes, shut down, refill, lather, rinse, repeat, may be a bit of a pain when you're doing it, but it has worked for over 50 years, and you're only doing it every 3-4 years if that.

Well, following the instructions, I successfully replaced my transmission fluid. My truck uses 3.2 quarts according to the Haynes Manual. I put in 3.6, then did the AT/Temp test using the wire on pin 4 and 13. Everything went as planned except for two things.

First, the AT/Temp light came on steady after about 25 minutes. Considering it was probably 50 degrees out in the morning doing the change, that doesn't seem too bad.

Second, the drain plug on the transmission was tight coming off. It didn't just loosen up and allow me to remove it the rest of the way by hand. When putting the plug back in and tightening with my torque wrench to 20 ft/lbs, I couldn't get it to tighten that far. It just tightens up to a certain point, then spins a bit looser, then tightens back up to the same tension. So, I'm thinking the plug is stripped, but not enough to leak.

Anyway, I purchased a new one from the dealer just in case, but so far after driving like 30 miles today, there is no leaking at all, so I guess I'll keep an eye on it. I sure hope the pan isn't stripped too. I have done oil changes my whole life and have never had this issue before. Whoever did the service on it before I got the vehicle must have mis threaded it going on...:(

Thanks a bunch for the write up. Saved me a good chunk of cash.

2007 pre runner 4.0 temp light does not come on until the shifting procedure is done 6 times. move the shifter rather quickly, watch for the light. do the shift thing several times till the light comes on-more time needed to warm up. the temp light will come on when temp is correct and flash if to hot. no indication of light at all until the procedure is done. I thought did not have a light till I shifted.

I have a 13 prerunner and have once already complained about a whine to my tranny. Had them look at it but said oh that normal for these transmissions. Now I'm finding out its a common issue for them to come low. Its going back and they are going to check levels but not before I check it at home. I wanna see if they are even checking it since I've had other issues and it seems they blow it off.

When in temp mode and you pull the overflow it trickles out or not. If i have to add fluid do you have to shut it off to fill or can you remove the fill while its running. Then do i have to re-enter temp mode again to check ?

    Thanks

Is it prudent to trust the scangauge reading of transmission fluid temp instead of going through the temp mode routine?

I used the Torque app temp reading. So far so good.

Well folks, I am one of those guys that needs to have his head removed as I just performed my 370ith + DIY oil change and started by dumping 3 quarts of AT fluid. What a genius! Now I cannot find the filler plug on my 2007 V6 4WD 5-spd AT Taco Sport with tow and TRD. My local dealer is 38 miles up the freeway.

The 2WD shows on the high on the tail piece, The transfer case is hung on the end of the 4WD tranny and I have worn myself stupid trying to find a 24 mm fill plug on the passenger side of the tranny. Any guidance would be realllly appreciated.

JMark, take a look at this thread:
    http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/2nd-gen-tacomas/68462-diy-full-flush-automatic-transmission-6.html
Post #108 has the location of the fill plug for the 4WD. Hope this helps.

Thanks guys, I really did believe you; just flat could not find it because...you cannot see it from the side, only if you are past the center of the pan toward the motor and looking to the rear of the tranny pan. To help the next fool:

The AT fluid fill hole is on the passenger side.

It is exactly aligned with the rear of the Tranny Pan.

It is centered 4 1/2 inches above the top of the pan.

It has the letters "WS" on it, big and clear.

It hides in its own little alcove which leaves it least 27 degrees of turn on your 24 mm socket and ratchet. Happy cranking.

I am going to need to check my fluid due to the issues I am having with my 2014. Can an ultragauge read the trans temp so I don't have to put it into temp check mode using a jumper wire?

    No, it can't.

Scan Gauge can, and I believe the Torque app can.
