Trying to figure out tires sizes..need some help.

Recently I've been looking at getting some bigger tires when I install the lift on my Tacoma but I can't seem to quite put my finger on exactly what to purchase.

Currently I'm running 225/75/16 on a 7.5inch wheel which, if my FIRST TIME tire metric to inches conversions are correct that would put me with a 29.0"x9.0"x16" wheel and tire package (rounding up). First of all I just want to make sure I did that correct...

Now, I have plans of installing the readylift sst kit on my 5-lug which should yield about 2.75'' of lift according to the website. So this is my question....the 29" tires are going to be way too small looking once the truck is lifted so what is a good tire size to go with that will 1)not kill my gas mileage that much and 2) look the most appropriate on a 2.75" lift. The readylift website says that the popular tire size for for such a lift is a 31'' tire..which leads me to my next question. What does that translate to in metric size ? (I'm not a math whiz so don't hate). And also how tall of a 31" tire can I fit without getting into problems with my UCA's or having rubbing issues. I know these kinds of questions are a PITA for you guys, but I've got to learn somewhere right ?

Here is the formula I use.
265/75/R16
265X2X .75=397.5/ by 25.4=15.64+16=31.6"

The Blue numbers will always be the same.

 

Okay....so if I want to go with a 31 inch tire what width can I fit on 16x7.5'' wheel with a 2.75" lift without any complications ?

I'm guessing a 245/80/16 or a 245/75/16 ? I need some help with this.

 

i'd probably stay with an 8 inch wide tire....maybe 8.5 or 9

 

So basically, I can't go any wider than a 225 ?

 

im not saying you cant per say....but the chances of rubbing and all are greater the wider you go. wheel offset will play a role as well.........

 

My offset is a +42 with 5.65'' backspacing.

 

yeah...with that,you'll wanna keep them pretty skinny as not to rub.....or find some wheel spacers for the front.

 

I've thought about wheel spacers but I've heard from some people that they are the devil. And I just need them for the front ?

 

yeah.....depending on width.......you'd only need them for the front. rears should be fine.

side note.....lots of wheel spacers are junk, so you'd need to find a good set. maybe check with spidertrax and see if they make a set for the 5 lug.

 

Okay...thanks so much for all the information. Just one more question for you. Let's just suppose I get a set of spacers and put them on the front. Is there still a maximum number of width I can go to for the wheel ? For example, a 245 or a 265 ?

 

well....by the tire calculator's measurements....a 265/75/16 is only a hair more than 1.5 inches wider than the 225 you are running now....so im thinking that either the 245 or the 265 should be fine with the readylift.
