    Sounds like a decent gig.

First night is always hard for me because it's a no sleep day and night.

Tonight is not too busy. Got a shimmy/vibration (crew is not sure) issue on the nose of a 757. So it's pretty easy work...especially when the parts are in California...again.

So I'm kinda just hanging out waiting for 06:30.

    AWP again .

That seems to happen to you a lot. I would have thought you'd have more parts on hand there. Memphis is a main hub, correct?

You would think so...this same thing has happened twice in the past two weeks.

Yea, MEM is the largest station. All fleet types and I guess around 300 to 350 mainline flights every 24 hours by us.

It's all above my pay grade... I kinda like it that way.

Got some plans for the weekend?

Short break (work Sat night this week). Nothing specific yet, my wife is fighting off a cold. Think the grand kids gave it to her last weekend. She's still struggling with it but going to work every day. Expect she might want to stay home and rest. I'll probably mess with the 6x6 a little in the garage, Randy (my hunting & fishing buddy) downloaded a repair manual for them. Our rigs are pretty much the same, but his is a 2007 and mine a 2009. I want to take the manual and familiarize myself how it all works and what I want/need to change out/check before pushing it too hard.

For now, looking at a lazy couple of days most likely.

"above my pay grade." That's exactly the tact I like to take now that I'm just a worker bee.

Do you ever get frustrated though? Having been "management/leadership" before retiring from active duty, I sometimes get frustrated at some of the stupid decisions I see. Learning to not worry about it, but it's taking time to adjust ... I find it difficult to "not care." Even though I know saying anything would be pointless. Oh well, long as I get a paycheck, it's all good. ;)

 Northern Lights just made an appearance. It's been a while since I've caught such an active display. Didn't last long though, about 5 mins. No matter how many times I see them, it's always a wondrous sight for me. :D

You know I've never seen the northern lights...and I would really like to some time.

You know, no, I don't get frustrated. I really won't go into detail why on the open forum but, we'll just say I'm pretty laid back in all things.

You should come up sometime. Yes that's an invitation. Problem with Northern Lights, wildlife, and even Mt McKinley...there's never any guarantee you'll see them all about right place at right time. I heard a stat on Mt McKinley, only something like 30% of the tourists who come up here to see it, actually do. It's so high that it attracts clouds like crazy and is clouded over a lot of the time. It is quite the spectacular on a clear day though.

I don't need details ... I'm working my way to being more laid back ... 4 yrs since I retired from AD, a couple more and I'll probably get the knack of it. ;)

    Thanks Rob.

But, be careful, I might take you up on it. I've got a break coming up over the next few months and have been looking for a little vacation to take SOLO (I'm excited about that part...it would be my first). And of course you know moving around "the system" is easy and free.

Gents, have a great rest of you shift and day. I'm on my way to give job turn over on waiting on parts...

Yea, I'm glad my company takes a good portion out of my check for 401k and retirement plans. It helps keep me in check with all the random things I want to buy.

yea it gets old after about 30 days of basically doing the same stuff every night.

I'm hoping for 2 weeks off. I used to be on a 20 days on - 10 days off schedule (which was great) but then my company started getting more work than we had employees so that screwed up our schedules.

I hope you get your two weeks; and enjoy it thoroughly. You've certainly earned it. :)

I'm hoping that since its getting warmer out that the next location will be too muddy, thus adding a few extra days off.

is Alaska starting to get warm or is it just sunny with a really cold temperature?

Relatively warm; mid 30s during the day, low to mid teens at night. Here in Palmer we've seen upper 40's recently.

Thats part of it, the outsourced desk were all about making numbers look good instead of actually improving the system which we've done. Unfortunately we're fighting years of half-ass outsourced processes so it'll take a while to fix.

I'd probably say outsourcing half of IT for about 6 years has set the company back 5 years technologically. We're a storage company and for example and we keep running out of space on our OWN servers  and virtual environments... Because adding storage to a platform that's 3-5 revisions back and out of support is apparently very difficult (or so the sys admins tell us).

The pay is extremely good though, but they're used to paying California wages where the company HQ is and so we're a steal in Denver, or so that's my theory. It's about 15-19% above market for my job. Then I get a 15% shift diff for working nights which makes it even sweeter.

That's what I suspected. My son worked for a "well known" company call center in San Antonio for a while. Same vibe I got from him regarding outsourcing. They moved back up here to be closer to home and family.

Sounds like a good deal for you though. Hopefully the slow down is just a cycle and everybody keeps their jobs. Thanks for the explanation. Time for my before work nap. Catch ya' later.

    Hey guys.

    How's everyone doing this evening?

My night was a little more on the busy side. Yee Haw...better than sitting on my ass looking for something to do.

Hey Joe. Wish I could say the same. All we had tonight was inventory and a little pre-planning for missions tomorrow night. Acft sucked up by higher priority missions. Nothing to move our cargo on tonight.
