    Hello...

I've just installed a system I had in my other vehicle into my 2012 DC PreRunner (pics are coming!)

    I have the following components:

    Pioneer Z140BH HU
    JL 300/4 & 500/1 amps
    Audio control EQS
    Focal K2 Speakers

When I turn the system off the driver door speaker pops somewhat loudly, like a thump on the door panel.
I called JL Audio they said try another ground and re ground the head unit. They also said it most likely will not damage the speaker because the pop isn't on long enough to do damage.

I have the amps grounded to the floor of the cab with the paint sanded away like every car I've done a similar install on. So I'm not sure what to think of that, but I wanted to see if anyone else experienced this and what their solution was?

    Thanks!
    Ron

Is the all of the equipment exactly the same as the previous vehicle install? No noise ever on turn off from the previous vehicle? Describe the routing and signal path of the remote turn on wire from the head unit to the Audio Control, JL amp 1 and JL amp 2?

    That's correct.

You may be on to something here: Remote wire starts at HU then goes to JL 300/4, I daisy chained the remote lead from there to the Audio Control then to the JL 500/1.

I inquired about this at the local car stereo shop and they said this was fine, but maybe this is an issue?

try splitting the remote wires before the amps. in a Y type so that way they turn off the same time. most likely one amp is turning off before/after

At first glance, the stereo shop was right - it "shouldn't" be an issue.

In my experience I had very good results when sending signal to the Audio Control first, then sending an individual wire from the audio control to each amp...you'd end up with three turn on wires connected to the Remote lead on the EQS (the three pin phoenix block will easily accommodate that). Also, is the EQS grounded to the same spot as the amplifiers? You didn't mention that in the original post?

Ok, great I can try this and Gumbeyyy's suggestion as well if needed. I think this is a good staring point. As far as the ground. Both amps and the EQS are grounded together with a DB Link ground block.

Thanks guys. I will report back...

    UPDATE:

It is not the remote wire path, I switched that up and no difference.

After speaking with JL & Audio Control (again today) I'm leaning towards it being a ground issue. A.C. recommended the best way to be sure is to ground it at the Neg battery terminal.

Can you feel the pop coming from the bass too? Or is just the highs?is it just the one speaker or all of them? It usually means Yur eq or your head units turn in off before the amps do .try turning off the the stereo and watching to see if your amp power leads turn off before or after the radio dose.do the same for the eq .

    Hmmm,, interesting point.

The HU turns on first, and turns off first. But I'm not aware of a way to power off the Pioneer Z140BH HU. ..Is there?

Try turning the key to the off position.

This is definitely drilling down to some more intense troubleshooting.
Any chance you could take some quick photos of the install and put it up?
Where did you say the ground was at? (I know you mentioned the ground ground block)
    How is the ground fastened?
Is the radio wired with an aftermarket wiring harness adaptor?
One more thing - as mentioned before, is it just the 300/4 that seems to be popping or both amps? If it is the 300/4 can you unplug the RCA cables and power the amp on and then off and see if it still pops?

I had the same problem when i installed my system, I started to get worried about possible damage to the speakers. I have the stock hu going to a processor, than to my amp. I ordered this

    http://www.ebay.ca/itm/1CH-DC-12V-d...050?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3a89509dda

And had a freind install it between the processor and the amp with a 5 sec delay, I wasnt sure if it would work but for the price it was worth a shot. It worked perfectly! ive had it installed for half a year without a pop.

    UPDATE:

remote wire sequence had no effect.
ground is at floor of cab (grounded off paint) bolted with 8GA ring connector.

I did the rca test, plugging in the sub only.
    Sub- no pop
rear speakers- very low, soft turn off click, but no pop.
fronts- this is the issue still. I've turn down the gains and levels it makes no diff.

My conclusion is while it may be a ground issue, I think its in need of a relay delay like CRISPY mentioned. Thank you BTW.
Everything turns on at the same time. And it needs a way to delay and possibly dissipate the power/signal before shutting off. I think this is the best solution.

I had the same issue in my fj. I was using an audio control LC6i witn alpine pdx amps. My subs would pop. I did my install and was told by a local shop that the prob was my routing of the power and RCAs too close to each other. I tried several times to move wires and never fixd the issue. Food luck and i look foward to finding out how you fix yours.

I have the RCAs and power running different paths so they are far apart. But thank you.

So I have tried re-grounding directly to the NEG battery terminal and it still pops.

So in final conclusion a RELAY DELAY like CRISPY mentioned ( or an Axxcess Trigger) is most likely going to be the ticket.

More to come.... & thank you

Your situation is pretty unusual - I've not ever encountered this problem with JL amps in all the years I sold and installed them...I really think the 300/4 may have an issue with it. Please let us know what happens with the delay set up...it sounds like an in rush of signal that the amp isn't filtering for some reason and even with the delay it may still be present. I'm very curious to see how this turns out - keep us updated
*edit - I mention the above because your issue is with turn off pop vs. turn on*

So what would be the cause or culprit should I say if it made a thump when you turned it on?

I wouldn't suggest to daisy chain the remote wire. If you run more than one amp use the remote wire from the HU to a relay and have the relay fire up the amps.
