Maybe thats why they were very persistent to make the sale. I worked them over fairly well on my trade too.

This thing hasnt seen a dune or any off-roading either. Mainly due to lack of free time last summer but still.

If the dealership inspected the truck and it is now "unsafe" to drive then it's just like anyone who sells a knowingly bad vehicle. Basically I consider it fraud. There is no way the frame would rust to the point of holes in it within two months of an inspection. Toyota may not be at fault but the dealership you bought it at is liable for selling the truck when it should have been scrapped or fixed before being sold.

OP, this could really turn out good for you. The fact that the sold a truck with an already rotted frame is a HUGE liability and grounds for a big lawsuit if you wanted to go after the dealer for putting you in that situation. I would contact a lawyer, I'm the last person to suggest a lawyer but this is a clear case of negligence on the part of the dealership that sold the truck and the service dept. that recently serviced it. The frame doesn't "rot out" in less then a year, let alone two months since the last service and "safety inspection". That dealership put you and everyone else on the road in danger by even selling the truck to you in the first place I wouldn't be happy with just a buy back or a frame replacement after being told about this. Then again I'm constantly checking me vehicles and doing preventative maintenance. Good luck with the outcome.

Okay, I had a dealer local tell me a year ago to keep an eye on mine because they had been doing multiple 2 Gen frames. 05' mostly. Makes me wonder...

I doubt someone intentionally tried to sell you an unsafe truck with a rotted frame. That is a lawsuit waiting to happen. Not many are going to take a chance like that on a sale that netted them a few thousand in profit at the most. Not even worth it. You do have a solid case because even UNINTENTIONAL sale of a dangerous vehicle is grounds for a lawsuit.

Most likely some lackey that did the inspection did a piss-poor job at it and let it pass.

This is pretty sad for Toyota that this is such an ongoing issue. The acceleration problem has been all over the news, why not the frame rot since Gen 1? They really need to get on the ball here. Looks like we will be seeing the 2nd gen fall to the same fate: frame replacement or total truck replacement.

I agree it probably wasn't intentional, but they told him the frame was good to go which puts it back on the dealership. You're right though, it was probably a slacked individual that was suppose to inspect it, but didn't.

    Just got a phone call.

They will replace the frame and cover my rental car for up to 2 months if i pay $1000 as a deductable.

That all sounded really good up until the $1000 deductible. Was that from the dealer or from Toyota?

I agree, what do i need a deductable for. Im assuming the dealership is trying to make $1000 off me.

They said toyota is going to cover the cost of the frame install and frame. I would be on the hook for up to $500 in miscellaneous fluids etc. Now there is a $1000 deductable factored in?

Some other guys on here had their frames replaced. I don't think they said anything about a deductible. I would think there must be a case # if the frame is being replaced. I would get that from the dealer and speak to Toyota and see what they have to say. If they don't want to give you the info, then just call Toyota and tell them your circumstances.

Why would you have to pay for anything I call BS. I'd call Toyota Motor Co. You should have a case number like stated above. They bought my 2001 back because I called Toyota headquarters and kept complaining after the dealership told me to.

First off there is not 500 dollars of fluid in any Tacoma. Not even close. Second the 1000 dollars is a rip. Tell them no thanks and that they need to foot the whole bill since they sold you a defective truck or you will send a wrecker to pick it up and go through litigation.

I live in Hawaii and noticed my frame had surface rust back in 2009/2010. My brothers 2010 tacoma has visual surface rust all thru the frame and they rarely off road the truck and always keep it clean. I know of a 05 that was brought brand new and he used it every day as well as launched his boat with it. couple years ago he had to have the rear of the frame plated to be able to remount the tow receiver.

My rust is mainly in the front but there is some along the sides. I try to keep an eye on the motor mounts since I read some issues of it when I bought the truck in 09 and I've ripped them out on my old 02 tacoma twice. Even with that truck that was before they were recalling the 01-04s and I had a pain in the ass trying to get toyota to buy it back, but eventually the truck was sold.

My 1st gen was reframed and the only out of pocket expenses were; new shocks/struts at all 4 corners and LUNCH for the tech doing my "re-Frame" ;)

Saved my a$$ on the swap by adjusting our infamous rear brakes and took the time too keep me in the "loop"...I viewed nightly progress of this "Toyota Sponsored rebuild"...

Oop,almost forgot the $$$ for gas in the Prius my wife had for the 16 days  it took to do the work....

Subbing for outcome. I have a hole in part of my frame. Really worried me when I bought the truck, but took it to a toyota dealership and paid to have them inspect it before I paid. I talked to the mechanic and he said he wouldn't worry about it as it isn't through the entire frame. I have had most of the service done at Toyota though.
