Talked to corporate and they threw it back at the service manager. So i talked to him again. His definition of deductible seemed to change this time around.
The $1000 is in fact going towards shipping costs and some labor and the fact they are allowing me a rental for 2 months. As a gesture of good faith...

He continued to tell me what a value i was getting because this is a $9-$10,000 job that toyota is gracefully allowing me as i am a non warranty holder and officially it is not a recall issue.

I see the value, even if its a $6000 job. But i dont know whether to argue or just take the deal and get it done. Sure im annoyed they want me to pay $1000 but $1000 is better than eating the full bill.

glad I have a 2013, you guys get the ball rolling on frame replacements. new model will be out in 2 years, they stop pruduction of 2nd gen frames. drive truck to frame rots out, and they buy truck back at 150 percent over blue book. buy the new generation for a little of nothing, and start over again.

Your choice BUT Toyota PAID for my rental PAID all my labor cost PAID for shipping the frame to NH and PAID for the Ball joint campaign that was added into the "Re-Frame swap" PLUS they PAID for everything on my new spare tire carrier campaign...;) at the end of 2013...

Rattle that service manager a little bit more BUT do not pi$$ him off....as you stated A Re-Framed 2nd gen will only GO UP in value...

behind the rear seat hi-lift mount bracket, easy-out crossbed toolbox brackets, sliders, ATO plate rear bumper, hood/bed lighting, always-on 12v outlets, dashcam, Viper 5806V w/ GPS
Or you could just be proactive and prevent your frame from rusting out. That's my plan anyway.

No way, they sold you a truck with a bum frame. Plus, as others have said, they didn't pay to have theirs done. Cheap manager.

Im going to do my best to have it go away and see how it goes when i get there.

There is the obvious other issue lingering of what else needs to be replaced under there when they have it all apart? Whos going to have to pay for that? This guy probably.

did have it under coated at the dealer, they gave a 10 year warranty. biggest problem I see is them rusting by catalytic converter. moisture salt and heat bad combination. probably should of used hi temp paint in this area before under coating.

Ok called 2 other dealerships in this region and without giving them specifics they both have participated and heard of this $1000 deductible straight from Toyota.
I am not getting scammed and feel slightly better about it. It is for frame replacements out of warranty only.
For those of you who got it free out of warranty, cheers. You have way nicer dealerships.

That's B.S.. I would call the better business bureau, Toyota corporate and a lawyer. Not necessarily in that order but this sounds like scam from the day they sold the truck. Knowing that you would bring the truck back to get work done on it they knew they could scam funds out of you once they "out of the blue" rust through rot in the frame not even two months after they did the "state safety inspection". The tech might've missed that (I highly doubt it) but when a Toyota dealer sells a vehicle they have to do a thorough vehicle inspection, not sure how many points they have to do at Toyota but even a toddler can see rot through on a frame.

So you think the dealer planned the whole thing to make 1000 dollars. Plus get the frame replacement money from Toyota Corp.

    That is laughable!

No, not just for $1k but something here is extremely F'd up here. There's no way the dealer had the truck up on the rack multiple times since they got the truck on their lot and didn't see the rot, that's where I call B.S..

This is really concerning. I had a 95.5 that never had a single major problem for the 160k miles I drove it. I'm currently in the market for a new 14. Anyone know if this is still an issue or has it been corrected in recent years? Also, I live in San Diego and only go to the snow a few times a year but still I want to know what I'm getting into. Thanks and good luck OP!

I'm pretty sure I would never want my local ,or any other for that matter, dealer do a frame swap. Does anyone realize what is involved in that? That thing is never going all back together with all the fasteners and wires/lines intact. I can only imagine how everything is getting torqued:eek:

They are still using the crap Jap metal and not sealing/ coating it good enough to prevent this. If I would've known this and all the other issues that the 2012-2013 Tacoma's have I would've probably bought a different truck. I'm not into spending this much money on a rig to have it shit out and be a rotted out paperweight in 6-7 years (probably sooner since I live in the heart of the rust belt) before I even pay it off.

If you're buying new, it's not such a big deal. Just keep an eye on it. Us peeps in the northeast have to deal with the man made salt flats that we call roads. It's very important to either wash the frame or apply a rust preventer like fluid film. It's not something to worry about if it's new. Just think about the frame the way you do about the painted surfaces. You wash your truck to help protect the paint. You spray the frame to help prevent corrosion.

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
Let me get this straight. You bought the truck 2 months ago and now that same dealer you bought the truck from is telling you the frame is junk and wants you to pay a portion of the repairs?

Sorry folks, here I go, again.

    1. Start and keep a record of the times, dates and a brief description of what was said and by whom.

    2. Contact your State Attorney General and open a file with them (it is free to you compliments of your taxes) and tell the AG what you've said here. DO NOT TELL THE DEALERSHIP you have opened the claim (keep that as a surprise- everyone likes surprises)

    3. Remain calm.

    4. Wait for fireworks.

    5. Don't get mad; get even.

    Good luck!
