Man, I'm thinking hard about a BRZ as a second car along with the Tacoma. I commute about 100 miles a day round trip (80mph the whole way), and I'm just dying on gas. Would be nice to have the Taco on snowy days, which is why I originally bought it. Getting even 30 mpg would be really nice, and would offset some of the car payment. Right now I'm paying like $500-$600 a month in gas, could hopefully cut that down to the $250-$300 range.

I don't think I could buy a Scion on principle - sorry if that offends anyone - but I could definitely get behind a BRZ. I know I shouldn't care about badging, but you know. I know a Scion is a Toyota, but just the fact that it's marketed to the "young" dynamic really bothers me for some reason.

I can't stand the layout of that FT86 forum. It seems like there are some mods and things around that would be fun but trying to navigate those forums is a nightmare.

I assume you guys like them. Are there any similar vehicles I should look at? I haven't found much that I'm interested in, and I definitely have some manufacturer bias.

This debate goes on and on on FT86. While part of me gets it, literally every piece under the hood is stamped Subaru...built side by side in the same plant. I bought the FRS on the principal of me not being able to justify the $3k difference for the Alcantara and garbage touchscreen (which I've heard they have since upgraded). Plus I like the styling of the front bumper better than the Subie. If you're that concerned with the Scion badging, swap it out for Toyota emblems!

As far as MPG, what's your E85 availability in Colorado? You can get a $500 PnP tune to run it and fill up for $1 less per gallon!

The OpenFlash Tablet with their e85 tune and a non-catted header should get you to 200whp from what I've been able to gather lately. Should be able to get everything you need for under $1200 or so.

Yeah a header plus e85 tune will get you around 200whp. I am at 181whp with just a header back and tune, if I get a e85 tune I can easily get 200-205whp but nearest e85 station is 45min north of me so I cant justify doing it. But that new plug & play kit I would be interested in since it will work with my tune and I can run e85 or 93 and it will auto adjust my tune to the mixture.

I've got a gas station that has it actually on my way home from work - so it would be easy to get. How do you get <$1/gallon? When I google e85 prices in Colorado I get an average of about $2.84/gal.

My limited googling in the past 5 minutes has got me even more confused...

Idk what you're premium 91/93 prices are, but E85 is generally $1 cheaper in next door in NE...that's where I'm making my "save a doller/gal" claim.

While completely valid, keep in mind he had several bolt-on mods and (purely speculative, I know) paid for a decent amount of dyno time to get that I'm guessing. That dudes made some major power strides since then - 248 with FI

I'm just thinking purely about the HP per dollar ROI you get with only a header and PnP tune. Great bang for the buck, IMO!

Ah I see. I read it wrong. Do you have to put 91/93 in the brz?

Yeah I did read some of that not too long ago. simplest way is still header/tune/e85 in my opinion. I will be doing pulleys next, dont expect much but should so something.

93 is at every station here and I will always put the 93 over 91, 91 is still fine tho, stay away from 87/89. Different sea levels and air I think matters when it comes down to it, most likely why you don't have 93 there as its not needed as much.

I have a little cash, think of intake and maybe an E85 flash and light weight pulleys.

I can't decide...I wanna keep it NA but squeak out the power and response. Lightweight pulleys and drive shaft sound tempting as does the greddy intake.

Welp, having my first real issue with my brz :(. Friday I was headed to a buddys house, got about 5miles from my house, check engine light started to blink and at idle was running from 400rpm to 1200 and shaking real bad. Shut it off, restarted it, light still blinking but idle wasn't as ruff, car sounded fine so I just went back home, tossed my scanguage in, was throwing p0000 as the only code. Cleared it and took it for a drive, CEL started blinking after a minute, ran fine and light went back off a minute later, drove 10-20miles and back to my house all seemed fine and no more light. Today I took it to the bank (3miles away), as I pulled into the parking lot, CEL started blinking and rough idle again, shut it off and did what I needed to do at the bank. After starting it back up, the CEL was still blinking but was running fine, so I headed back home, 1/2 mile out the parking lot the CEL went solid and 10sec later the slip indicator came on. The car sounded fine, was running just fine so I just went straight home, cleared the code as I pulled in and it was back blinking within a minute throwing the p0000 code and a blank code.

A quick search I got it may be a camshaft timing/positioning issue. Not gonna take it to the dealer since I have the header back and tune, my mechanic is only open 9-5 and that's the hours I work so may be a little while before im able to get it looked at. Anyone on here had any CEL issues? Really hoping it aint serious being im in the middle of buying a house and cant afford shit to go wrong. but just sounds like a minor issue/fix.
