As the title says, p0430 bank 2. Catylyst insufficient.

So, pricing out rear cats and the labor. Toyota wants about $1200. Other shops want a little less, but then one guy suggested saying the heck with it as bank 2 is not really needed, and I would be safe. He suggested replacing with a pipe .

A couple of questions, if I do this, what are the legal issues. I have no intention of ever visiting California. I do have to meet the emissions for Atlanta metro area though.

    Would it throw codes?

What would I need to do besides just pulling them and replacing them with pipe to make it run right? Would it run right?

How do I get around the o2 sensors?

At this point no leaks and the sensors seem good based on multimeter.

Any tips at all would be appreciated!

URD makes an O2 simulator for the rear O2. It will prevent any code from being thrown. Have you determined that the code is from a bad cat and not a dying O2 sensor giving bad readings to trigger the code? If you got the time, I'd switch bank 1 and bank 2 O2 sensors and see if it still pulls 0430 or if it now jumps to 0420.

I will try that this weekend. I have not done that. Sure would be a nice fix if that is all it is.

Thing is, this code popped up last summer. The Toyota dealer told me what it was and reset it. It did not pop again until last week. This time I have had a decrease in mpg. Last time, no changes at all.

I also noticed it seems a little rough at idle.
