The day was going well until the last bolt. 3 out of 4 fluids changed. All new spark plugs. Then the bolt broke on the #2 cylinder cap. I thought I had it tight but it just kept going. Yep, one half turn too much. Snapped that bitch off right at the block. Tried to drill and retrieve it. No luck. Calling the dealership tomorrow at 7 am to get her in. FUCK ME

So the million dollar question. How fucked am I? Can I drive it on 5 cylinders up to the dealership or just get it towed?

My best deer shed so far. Bonus points if you can spot the elk and deer on the hillside in the background.

Have you tried an Easy-Out? They're usually a last resort, but have worked a few times for me..

Have access to a welder? I've used this truck quite a few times..

Weld a nut on top of your bolt; fill the center with weld. It serves a dual purpose; heat cycles the bolt threads, and gives you a great place to wrench the bolt out..

I've been in your shoes before; just be really glad you can go to a dealership...

I broke a bolt on a Caterpillar 3512 injector pump. Got so fuggin' lucky that I could find one in Dutch Harbor. Otherwise it would have been a 4 day wait.

After that debacle, I follow torque spec. like a mofo.

Hey I'm looking for an exhaust shop in the Seattle area that can be trusted. My guy in Kenmore retired - he was awesome.

I need to relocate my crossover pipe in prep for skids.

    Anybody have any recommendations?

No welder. The Easy out bit didn't cut through the bolt. Gonna try an actual bit tonight after dinner

Hmm.. I've had okay luck with the extractors.. Follow the instruction, then pound in the extractor bit with a drift/then use a drill with reverse..

I wouldn't go after it too much more.. And I'm wondering what the dealership will do that you haven't done already - all whilst charging you up the butt..

Guess you could always completely drill it out..

We had to fully drill out an exhaust bolt from the head. Not a fun job.

I looked online and I can order a new one for fairly cheap (218). But then there is installing it. And I don't feel comfortable doing that. I knew I should have just paid the dealership to do this all for me. Guess the only thing I can do is oil changes.
