Jap metal? I laughed when I read that. Every jap made car I bought has been perfect until I sold it. Ever since they started building these japanese brand trucks/cars in other countries was when shit went south.

He bought the truck about a year ago and just had the State Safety Inspection back in the middle out Jan. but yes I would contact someone and have it dealt with legally since they obviously sold him an unsafe vehicle.

I thought the same thing, the truck was inspected not long ago and they should've seen this. Not only but these trucks are suppose to go through some sort of inspection where they look it over completely before throwing it back out on the lot to sell.

I'd say go after the dealership for this. They need to pay for this not you bud.

If you know there is a problem now, why not coat the underside/frame with Fluid Film and save yourself an ass ache down the road?

I know for sure i am going to look into undercoating of some sorts for the new frame. Who knows how long ill have it but as long as i never have to worry about something like this again ill be good.

BTW, the new frame is coming with a 1 yr/12,000 mile warranty against anything frame related and work performed.

They kicked me a loaded 2014 camry xle hybrid for the meantime.

Completely unrelated to the topic... where are you from in RI?

Just curious, as I was born and raised in North Kingstown and graduated from NKHS in '87. I think I have fished every lake in that state from Johnson's pond to Silver Spring.

I joined the Navy out of HS and left at 17, never to return. CA is just as ridiculously liberal, but the weather and fishing is SO much nicer. :D

As a matter of fact i did. Sure there was some flaking in areas, this is new england and that is pretty common and no i didnt bang every inch of the frame with a hammer. Mind you everything else was in excellent condition.
Yes ive been under there since i bought it to do my diff and oil but again nothing looked out of the ordinary. I couldnt see it rotting from the inside out... I took their word that it was solid, it was freshly inspected, there was a carfax buyback guarantee and i got an extremely good deal.

Now unfortunately or fortunately however you want to look at it I have to get a new frame.

Housing market is actually pretty similar in RI, as far as price goes. The houses in RI are much nicer, though. They have basements that we can't have in CA, and they're built a lot more solid because of the weather changes.

We get a concrete slab, chicken wire, stucco and drywall for the same price.

Agree, If I see a small rust spot it gets cleaned and sprayed. I have a 2013 with only 5,000 miles. One thing I was always told when buying something is to check it yourself and if you don't like what you see don't buy it. The famous words it will be ok, until you complain. I don't know what your talking about are the next words. Run and don't look back.

    This.

I just crawled under my truck about 20 minutes ago to see how the second winter went with Fluid Film. My frame is covered in dirt, but the paint is completely black. Granted it's a 2013 that has only seen 2 winters, but so far, so good.

When the winter was at its worst and all the trucks I saw had white frames, mine was still black. Keep on top of it and hopefully you'll avoid the headache, but like it has been said before the ball is now rolling on the frame issue, so hopefully by the time the newer trucks hit that point some sort of procedure is in place.

Man, I'll be damned if I need to ever get a loaner from the dealer for whatever reason and they try to give me a car, I'm making payments on a Tacoma dcsb, that's what I'm getting no if's ands or but's. I use my truck as a truck and have a family to transport around so I need a truck, period.
