No, but only because if I leave the Tacoma I'm going back to a full size Chevy diesel.

I might consider it again. But just like I did when I walked into the Toyota dealership. I ask how long has Toyota been making this engine? Never will buy anything again with a first year engine.

No, but my next truck I will be going back to a full size truck. This thing is just to small to haul anything. I have to take the trailer every time.

Ford is the only long shot. Problem is I have a buddy at work whose cousins work for Ford and on one of his visits, checked them out during a workday lunch. Long story short, few beers at lunch, maybe a special smoke, and they go back to building YOUR tranney. HE just laughs about it and drives an Elantra.
GM and Chrysler weren't viable w/o govt $ and screwing their investors. And now Chrysler belongs to Fiat; still couldn't make a go of it !!.
I know Taco's have had their headaches but Toyotas have been the best vehicle for my family since 2000. Ain't gonna switch now.
Diesel in a Taco.. have to think about diesel selling for 10c more than premium gas (50c more than regular) so any extra diesel mileage wouldn't likely matter..
Cummins for a TUNDRA makes sense though...

I'll probably take a test drive just to check it out. I will stay away from the 2.8L diesel though. After spending a week in Costa Rica with a Land Cruiser Prado, the lack of engine-braking in small diesels is a deal-breaker for me. The larger diesels in HD pickups have exhaust brakes.

The 3.6L V8 LFX engine is used across some 11 GM models (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GM_High_Feature_engine#LFX). By the time the new Colorado comes out, it would have accumulated 3 years worth of service history.

Will I consider it? Certainly. I have a really really hard time seeing myself pull the trigger on it though. If I were to buy a Chevy truck I would buy at least a full size.

Canyons/colorados are garbage. Driven way too many. Goes with all GMs. Prefer toyotas indefinitely.

No throttle plate like on a gas engine, so no engine braking. It almost caught me off-guard on a steep decent when I downshifted and the Prado didn't slow down at all, only the revs went higher.

False. Lots of diesels now have intake butterfly valves. For EGR

Nah, it was an extended warranty not a recall. They told me for weeks it didn't exist even though I found it online, then the dealer refused to fix it saying he doesn't think it's the head even though 4 wks prior the same dealer diagnosed it.

This was actually what I thought, but I didn't know enough to argue the point. Hence the inquiry

Indeedy. There's a valve in the air intake stream to lower the pressure in the intake, to induce EGR flow. Another way they can induce EGR flow is to raise the pressure in the exhaust by restricting exhaust flow.

Now that you mentioned it, I went and looked at some photos of the 2.8L Duramax. Sure enough it has an intake butterfly valve:

However, from what I read, the valve isn't intended as a throttle, it doesn't operate with the same logic as on gasoline engines (i.e. foot off the gas pedal - valve closes). Still no engine braking.

Why would I reward GM by purchasing a defective product. I work with a guy that worked for GM. He got hostile mad when I suggested he should have bought a Toyota when his Chevy was giving him problems. He and his wife have Chevys as new or newer with fewer miles than my Taco they always seem to be in the shop, brakes, wheel bearings, 4WD actuator, the list goes on. I just remind him that my Taco has had no problems in 90k+ miles:D No I wouldn't even consider any GM product. Let alone their idea of a diesel. (Remember the 350 conversions?)
