I am on my third toyota pick-up. and have had two 4-runners. If you love your tacoma, you will love the 4-runner. Very simular driving. we just considered the 4-runner more of the family veh. wife liked the enclosed back end for shopping. i just recently got my 09 tacoma, but last year traded the 4-runner for a mini-van. my oldest is a 247 lb line backer, and hauling two kids sports equipment to games is easier in the mini van. but i miss the 4-runner in the snow!

4runners are dope looking! I really wish I would of gotten one instead of the dub cab I have now at times. Would of saved my money in the modding area though for a few items lol. Next car I'm gonna get will be a 4runner hopefully if the new 2010+ body style isn't ugly in the next 3 or so years.

I went from a 1st gen Tacoma to a 2nd gen(90-95) 4Runner. Now that I've experienced both a Tacoma and a 4Runner, I think the 4Runner may be the vehicle for me. I have 2 kids and IMO, the versatillity of the SUV platform matched with the ruggedness of the body on frame construction is hard to beat.

I have an 09 Tacoma DC and a 08 4Runner Limited V8. A car seat can fit in either of them. The third row seat is a waste of time, space, and money. There is no room in a 4Runner to put a third row. The V8 is nice. My wife wanted her 4Runner a little bit taller, so I had a 3" Toytec Ult lift put on. She loves it!! And so do I.

Wife drives a 05 v8 sport 4wd (full time 4wd) it averages 17.3 till I get in it. Man that thing is fun to drive. Don't have the third seat so can't give you any input on that. We have a car seat in the back and it has plenty of room. Very, very, very nice vehicle. Best thing we ever did was scrap the dunlops and put 265/70/17 open country h/t's on it. Difference in the ride was amazing. This is one bad ass ride!

Lost track many, many mods ago.
I have 2 4Runners. a 2006 and a 2007 both SR5's and both V6's no complaints AT ALL! Enough horsepower for pretty much anything. I haven't been disappointed yet.

    My wife's car is a black 2007 SR5 4Runner V8. I think they were all automatics.
It has the full time 4WD, with Torsen limited-slip center differential with locking feature.

She loves that 4Runner. I like the V8 part, it moves out pretty good.
Looks like it has the exact same 17" 5-spoke alloy wheels as my new Tacoma.

My first Toyota was a black '96 SR5 4Runner 4WD auto that I bought new. One of my son's has that one and the other son (in college now) has a 2000 4Runner SR5 4WD auto. That one is a mix of blue and lavender color. We call it Blavender.

    I laughed out loud.

I was reading the above posts thinking, "what? a highlander?". I'm glad someone is on the same page as I.

I agreed. On '09 SR5 a little tight, but it work well for car's seat.

I prefer the 4-Runner too. The op mentioned gas mileage and I was just giving him another option.

I get my 3 year olds car seat an my 4 month olds car seat in the back of my DC no problem. I don't have to move the front seats up or anything.

I suspect the 4Runner is similar.

I have even had both car seats in the back and an adult in the center with 2 adults in the front for a 30 min ride. No complaints... Well, except for the 4 month old. She was pissed. Like always.

    It's a great deal, I'm sure you could negotiate for 17K. If not you could get '09 SR5 4X2 (EPA city Mpg 16 , Highway 21Mpg) for 17.5K sticker price $ 31,148.00

FWIW here's a picture nose to nose. Tacoma is a little higher.
