It's still not worth $500 IMO when I can just get a CMC drop in for $150 and it has a 3-3.5# pull

Jerry Miculek had split times that were exactly the same as his normal split times with a few that were 1/100th of a second faster lmao. Proven pointless. It's just all about practice.

I had a opportunity to fire a AK last weekend. Seemed comfortable and well balanced. The guy that owned it was a big fan of the AK. What advantages does the AR have over the AK. I am partial to the AR with military experience.

    piston drive system is standard
    7.62x39 is a harder hitting than 5.56x45

generally AK's are more reliable but the AR is more accurate

but the AK's are usually a fuckton cheaper. lol

The piston system is highly reliable on the AK platform, the AR piston systems can be improved on. With an AK you pretty much never have to clean it.

The round is harder hitting because it's slower, which helps in terms of penetrating thin steel. It doesn't tumble like the 5.56/.223 does when it hits something and doesn't cause as big of a would channel. In terms of terminal ballistics the 5.56 is superior. The 7.62x39 has ballistics similar to that of a small handgun with FMJ rounds due to low muzzle velocity and low impact velocity.

Modern ak platforms have been proven accurate. Black Forge builds AK's that are sub-MOA and just as accurate as an AR. And the difference with the 7.62 is that it retains performance as barrel length is reduced.

    Even for hunting?
It seems like a lot of people use AK's for cheap pig guns, and i've thought about a AK or 7.62x39 upper for a deer gun (short range), but i've decided to build a 300 BLK for my deer gun.

    "Generally"

IMHO both are great rifles, there isnt a "better"

I use my AR to hunt all the time without problems :D

5.56 has max penetration of 12-14 inches. 7.62 is pretty similar it just penetrates differently, sometimes further. The wound channel is way different though similar to 9mm, very narrow. 300blk will probably be better than 7.62x39, I have no idea, haven't researched it yet. However, a prime 300blk would be a suppressed 7.5in. Mmmmm I'd love that.

Honestly both rounds have been killing game and people for decades so it really doesn't matter, they have both been killing animals and people for decades lol. Here's a good explanation I saw on arfcom a while back.

"If we're talking FMJ, 5.56 wins hands down. Way larger wound potential.

7.62 FMJ will enter, yaw, mess shit up, and exit even after going through a barrier.

5.56mm will enter, yaw, fragment, and FUCK shit up but try to avoid shooting trough barriers."

Comparing the cartridge and not the platform, their supersonic loads are basically a wash. Looks like 7.62x39 is pushing a 123 gr bullet about as fast or maybe 50 fps slower than the 110/115 gr bullets out of 300 BLK.

I've got a suppressed 8" BLK but it's basically a range toy. Even for whitetail, I reach for the trusty 308 bolt gun. I guess if I went not hunting and had time to fill out the paperwork, I might take the BLK hog hunting.

How quiet is it? What amazes me is that it's such a large round designed to be suppressed even in the shortest of barrels and I read it it's as quiet as a suppressed 9mm.

But for some hogs you wouldn't mind a 308.
I haven't really researched it, but in 4 months (almost 3) i'll be able to submit paperwork for a 300 BLK SBR, so that's what i'm planning on building, then reloading for.

It's not really a large round when you think about it. Subsonic 300 BLK is a 220 gr bullet going 1000 fps. That's basically a 45 ACP. It's about as loud as a 45 ACP would be suppressed. Supersonic, it's loud, but not as loud or as annoying as 223 out of a short barreled gun. I have an 11" 223 upper that is really annoying to me, but an 8" 300 BLK suppressed is no problem with 110/125 gr supersonic loads going 2100 fps or so. At that point you're talking close to AK ballistics in a handy package, but it's not very quiet at that point. Still fun.

I realized their quality on coating sucks. The lower has a textured finish while the upper is smooth. Oh well it's gonna get re coated burnt bronze when I have more funds.
