Whirling Noise, Drive Train.

    Uhh Im going to shoot my truck.

    Just got my TW Drive Shaft back, and this whirling noise... Iv heard for a while( was faint) is now very noticeable. should I be concerned. Im out of ideas on what it could be. Iv already had the rear pinion bearing replaced. so IDK anymore.

    Any Ideas.

    Sorry I should have mentioned I have the Tom Woods Double Cardon Single Tube Drive Shaft.

    So no Carrier Bearing.

    Well, that makes this simple..............I think.

    You have a progressive "whirling" noise from the rear of the truck. Does it change (get louder) with increased speed?

    How does the angle compare to the old drive shaft?

    I take the u's were replaced also? Greased?

    angle isnt bad. If anything My pinion is a tad positive.

    the old 2/pc shaft also made this noise. so its hard to tell where its coming from.

    yeah and everything is greased.

    Well, if you had the pinion bearing changed and the sound exsisted pre-shaft swap maybe it is in the tranny. Perhaps the output bearing? Or maybe a rear wheel bearing?

    4.10 gears, sliders, and lots of buttons.
    Fast "wiring sound" = pinion or tranny output
    Slow "wiring sound" = wheel bearings.

    Thanks Chris and 98. Thats what I was scared of. my trans also makes a slight rattle\rubbing\rolling sound when down gearing slowing down. so thats where I had a feeling it was coming from.

    and maybe because theirs no play in the Shaft now. (ex, single tube) Im noticing the vibrations????

    Highly likely. You can always drop the shaft, put the tranny in nuetral and spin the output slowly. If its a gear (or worse-gear) you should be able to feel some resistance and possible grinding. Also, drain your fluid to see if there are any metal fillings.
