Guys I need an estimate as to how much you think it would cost me to build this 10x 12' in Pressure treated. Im capable of doing all the work myself. We absolutely need it for shade and i have mosquito netting for blackflies.

Im considering this because we have pretty good windstorms and those chinese metal gazebos are easily destroyed.
However Im NOT considering this because Im selling the house in 2015 and will really only get this summer out of it.

This is the only part of being in the military I despise. We move every 2-3 years so you cant get too crazy finishing/customizing your house.

    Appreciate the estimates.

... ^^^ ... Love this stuff and doing all trim in house with it now.

Looks like "oil" without the mess. Cleaned all woodwork and trim, primed and double coated with this gloss.

PS ... I ALWAYS buy my paint at S/W's 40% off sales and I think another 40% off sale should be in April. Time to stock up for the finish.

The S/W regular primer never goes on this sale though.

Anybody have experience with Frog Tape? Curious if it is worth the extra dough over 3M blue painters tape.

Application is painting interior walls and will be taping off crown molding and door casings.

I use the Frog Yellow tape all the time over the 3m Blue. The Frog tape leaves almost no sticky residue. The 3M Blue leaves a lot of it. I Detail cars on the side and not having to remove the residue is a big plus.

The yellow frog tape is way worth it. I wish I would have tried it earlier as there was way to much touch up work using the blue 3m painters tape.

I know the yellow frog tape is for delicate stuff. Wondering how the yellow vs green compares when applying to crown molding or door casings (i.e smooth surfaces that are not freshly painted).

Learn how to get good at cutting in and you'll save money on tape. ;-)

Good paint and a high quality brush makes it easier to get a good clean line too.

    Good video, thanks macgyver!

This is my first time painting, so my plan is to learn to cut in without hitting the tape, just using the tape as insurance.

I will definately get good paint and sash brushes.

Just like I think he mentions in that video, an angled 2.5" purdy is my preferred brush. A good quality brush really makes a difference. They tend to hold and release the paint a lot smoother and crisper.

Whenever I paint, I like to cut it with a brush first and feather the paint into the wall. Then roll as close as possible to avoid haloing. Then do the trim last to cover up any mistakes from getting paint on the trim. That guy has a ton of videos and he has some great tips. Practice makes perfect.

Finished primering, texturing and painting the walls. Stained the wood ebony and put a coat of poly over it. I also made small hatches in the base of the alcove so it could be used for some storage. The paint looks blue but it's actually gray.

i'm in agreement w/ macgyver... cutting in w/out using tape is the way to go, ...not only does is save you from the laborious task of carefully taping straight segments at wall/ceiling and wall/trim interfaces, ..but the end result will look better.... the tape can allow bleedthrough in places, ...and it just plain ads more work to the task...

...IMO, tape is needed to mask off things you definitely don't want to get paint on... but if you're cutting in a ceiling or around trim, it's not a big deal if you have a little screw up here or there, ...it's easy to go back later and cover the mistakes w/ a stroke of trim or ceiling paint... this is way easier in the long run than trying to tape off ceilings and trim... ;)

if you want to build your cut-in skills and confidence, ...just start by painting a closet or something like that... ;)

Anyone have any idea what to do here?

I just cut a log in half length wise to make a bench. I'm not sure about the log drying out and splitting, so I'm wondering if I should put some urethane on it to seal it now or let it weather a little first. I don't know if the urethane will prevent it from cracking and drying out or if it will just make it look nicer.
