Access cab sub box design, Would you buy it??

I got a buddy designing a sub box for my access cab. I found a few boxes online that looked pretty good but none would work with a really powerful sub. The design always seemed to limit the sub.

This enclosure can house a number of subs. He is building mine for one JL 12W6. He can tweak the dimensions for most any single sealed application and I'm sure he could work something out for ported box and maybe even 2 subs.

The enclosure will be pretty much identical to this one but won't go as high. It will only rise 16" above the seat and is 14" wide. There are a couple ways to anchor the box as well. Still working on this aspect.



Would you guys be interested in purchasing one?? Not sure about price yet but I know it will be VERY affordable. No carpet will be even cheaper. Hopefully I will get a price shipped tonight. I'll also post pics of the box I'm getting when it arrives.

 

I really like it but..... I was designing something very close to this except I was using a shallow mount sub so it doesn't block so much of the aisle for laying cargo in across the cab. From the looks of the box in the picture it is probably twice as deep as one for a shallow mount. If you took a pic directly at a right angle you'd see how little pass through space is left. That wouldn't work for me. Others might be OK with it, though, esp if you just must have a big normal depth sub.

Like I said, I was designing a shallow version of what you have but I decided to just take the seats out (and rear console since mine is an 09) and I got a Pioneer shallow 10" sub and matching Pioneer box that stick out a max of 5 7/8" on the bottom, less on top. Still plenty of room to lay big objects across the cab.

Try making a shallow version and I think you will have a winner.

 

Good idea! How do those shallow mount subs sound anyways?? I know the JL's are hella expensive. Right now I'd prefer to stick with the design that's proven, not saying the flat ones aren't. That's just me.

The guy that is building this one for me has been in car audio for years and builds boxes on the side. I'm 100% positive he could build the box that you described and I'm sure it would be a great price since it's so simple and small. Please let me know if anyone wants his contact info. He is very patient and receptive to your needs and will get exactly what you want.

The box pictured above (and the one I'm getting built) calls for about 1.25cf which makes the box roughly that size. A lot of really nice subs call for smaller sealed enclosures which would reduce the size a good bit.

The box above costs roughly $100 + actual shipping without carpet. Add $30 with carpet. Price might also be affected if the box needs to be smaller.

I'm pretty stoked about getting it. I'll be sure to post pics when it's done.

it looks good, eventually ill be getting rid of the stock "sub" that comes in the 09s and doing something like that. but for now im focused on other mods...UCAs and sliders are up next for me.

Yea 130 seems alittle high for a single box to me. Though I guess I am looking at it as I can build one cheaper (actually working on one for my Taco) but I guess your friend has to try to make a profit since he is selling them.

 

who makes the one with the kicker as pictured? I have been looking for a box that will support my 10" solo baric

i am interested but I would also like the ability to fold the seats up and down for my dog. and it doesnt look possible to do and have it fit both ways.
What would the cost be on a box like this. that looks to be a 12" kicker right?

Looks good but I'd rather not a $200+ speaker hanging out in plain sight.

 

I wound up just getting a JL 12 inch sealed power wedge to put in the floor and fire towards the back wall.

I can remove it quickly and keep the folding seats for what ever use I might need. With the driver's side rear seat folded up my power wedge fits perfectly on the floor between the driver's seat and the rear folded seat. I am not losing leg room, I'm 6ft 3in tall and still have about 2-3 inches of rear seat travel on the track.
