Yikes! I'm curious what Wet Okoles response was too.

I'll be keeping an eye on mine.

I contacted them and they are going to ship me a new controller to plug in so when I get it I'll see how that one holds up..my passenger side one has been fine so maybe it was just a faulty controller

I've been using my WO seat heater for a few years without problems. I have not heard of others having problems with the seat heaters but OP's problem makes be a bit nervous.

Why does everyone call any type of electrical issue a "Short". What actually caused the switch to burn is a "Partial Open" circuit where the switch contacts have a resistance to current flow causing localized heating at the switch and melting of the plastic.

Sorry I am an Electronics Tech by trade and it drive me crazy. If you don't know just say "I don't know".

    Thanks :)

Wow. Hasn't happened to me and I've used mine a ton of times.

On a side note, my WO seat heaters heat up the seat too much. No matter which setting, it's all hot as hell after 10 minutes.

And I am an electrician by trade myself. Could have been a few different things, point is it shouldn't happen. If the hot lead had a path anywhere but where it was supposed to, it's called a short circuit.

Wow. I'm just a simple minded Marine Engineer by trade and I almost called it a short. Phew I would have looked like a retard. Thanks for the heads up.

No one would have known if you were an engineer. People would have just assumed you were retarded. It happens sometimes.

One case of this happening at TW shouldn't have people worried. I could see if it was a few times and not just one person then it's different. Let's just see what happens.

I think this is a major crysis! We should all be very worried. Many people have been considered retarded and I'm sure more than one of them were engineers. :goingcrazy:

You mean "crisis." I meant worried about the seat covers. Not worried if engineers are retarded or not. That's irrelevant.

    What was the outcome?
    I have a similar problem.
One of my switches is defective.
The "Low" setting does not power the heater, and the "High" setting powers the heater, but the switch gets hot.
Like AlaMode said, you should all keep and eye on these heaters, and a fire extinguisher handy if you don't want your truck to go up in flames

Has anyone cut the switch assembly and 12V plug off of one of these things and just hardwired them to a switch mounted on the console, dash, etc?

Might just be some cheap switches they use and a more permanent solution would be nice to have.
