o my god i just got my ticket after only having my tacoma for 2 weeks...this is wat happened i was going down this road that leads to the mall but its a small road and the speed limit is 35...so theres this cop posted at the stop sign on a motorcycle waiting for people to make a mistake... so i go up to the stop sign and make a full stop and i drive away, then all of a sudden he follows me and then tells me that i was going 45 in a 25...he didnt say he clocked me, he wrote the ticket, and i signed in the wrong spot on accident haha(can i use that against him?)but ya and i dorve off. my points-

the ticket says laser-694 ft could he be lieing about that?
thats all it says other than infraction and speeding

so i have to go to court, do i have a chance?

You always have a chance when it comes to fighting a speeding ticket. Many times, the cop won't even show up and the charges will be dismissed.

haha... i got pulled over for the first time ever after having my Taco for about 2 months. Exactly 55 in a 45 speed zone. Since i had a clear history when he called in my plates, he simply said "just slow down for those speed zones from now on" and let me go. Thats sucks though man. I think you could probably get it taken off though.

I'm 17 years old and have had a pretty quick car (Nissan SE-R) and a V6 Taco. Still no accidents or tickets of any kind.

a good thing to do when you GET the ticket is to be vague....let the officer forget you and if your going to contest in court, then postpone it as long as possible. the point is to make the officer forget what even happened. this doesn't always work and sometimes you have to have connections. my friend got pulled over going 130 in a 45 zone(HES ****** RETARDED) in a bmw. his dad performed surgery on the judge's daughter so the judge only put him on probation for a month....i know rediculous right?

Here in FL, when you get a ticket, it can be taken care of by requesting a court appearance..... let me explain.

The courts are so over loaded here in Dade/Broward/Palm Beach counties, that they do not want you to go to court, so if you request a hearing they send you to a pre-trial hearing. The authorities rely on people just mailing in the fine to save the hassle.

This pre trial hearing is designed to settle the traffic ticket before you go to the real court hearing with the officer. As long as you are not an Axe murderer and didin't mouth off to the officer you stand a great chance of getting out of there with a light fine and no points.

You have to have a fairly clean driving record and not be an A**hole to the police officer. When you get to court, you will notice a lot of guys in suits. These are the "Ticket Clinic" lawyers who charge you $100 to clear your traffic ticket - I refuse to give these guys anything and prefer to go in person. When they call your name - you go up to a Judge Advocet and he looks at your violation and record and asks you if you want to pay a fine here or go to court.

Thats is all there is to it.

Check around and see if you have the same setup in CA.

The important question is WERE you going 45 in a 25 within the last mile or so before you saw the cop. If so it was probably a team effort that caught you.

    Good luck.

Okay, just go to court and there will be a chance the cop/CHP/Sheriff will not show. If the cop shows it will be your young word against the veteran law enforcement officer and the judge will normally side with LEO. If anything pay the freaking ticket and go to traffic school online. I took one of those online comedy traffic schools and you just keep taking the test till you pass and it's only $25.00 (if I remember right). You can go to traffic school every 18 mo's in Cali so you just cant get a ticket in 18 mo's!!!! I got 2 spoeeding tickets in 2 months in 2002 went to traffic school for one and was able to keep my california good driver discount on my ins (20%). if you were only doin 5-10 miles over the speed limit your ticket should be under $200.00. I was cited doing 87 in a 65 (I was going a-lot faster than that but the CHiPpy was cool)and my ticket was a little over $200. I was flyin up hwy80 from San Jose to Tahoe and got nailed in Vacaville by the CHP.

my buddy used one of these, I don't remember what one. Good Luck!!!!!

Yeah you're only allowed traffic school every 18 months, but I got one in Tahoe one week then one in the south bay commuting over a mountain road the next week. The Tahoe ticket was a mandatory court appearance so I received my south bay ticket first and was allowed traffic school. When I went to court in Tahoe about a month later the judge asked if I wanted to attend traffic school (don't think he knew about my recent ticket), and I said HELL YEAH.:D
So I was very lucky, and yeah they are about 25$. I've taken like four different ones and every one takes a different amount of time, but all of them you could take the final test as many times til you pass.

Since you're in CA... Go to court and request traffic school. The judge may give you a reduced fine (from what you will pay if you just pay the bail on the ticket) when you plead guilty. Take the traffic school (I recommend you just go to the one-day 8 hour class and get it over with vice doing the online thing- which is a serious PITA) and keep the point off your record.

Your chances of winning against a speeding ticket are not so good in this state. And usually when the officer doesn't show up in CA, they just reschedule.

When I was 17 I owned a 97 Acura EL, was filling up on gas and the cop was in front of me in line at the register. When I get outside the cop is parked behind me, I drive to the local auto shop, put my car on a hoist and did my oil change, got outside after about 45 minutes and the cop is parked 2 spots over. I hop in my car and watch as this cop follows me for 15 minutes to wal-mart. I go grab a few things in wal-mart and come back outside, this cop is still there. I go to leave and he pulls me over befor I get outta the parking lot. I ask the cop what the problem is, and let him know I've been watching him follow me for the past hour and half. He tell's me its just a routine traffic stop. I say to him whats so routine about following a guy around for all this time, told him my boss would have my ass if I wasted his time and money like that! Cop gets me out of my vehicle and performs a full search of my vehcile, after about 45 minutes of tearing my car apart (leaving my stuff on the side of the road, and me running around trying to grab gas receipts) the cop says that he didnt find anything, and that I need to "watch myself", like what is that supposed to mean. So I left trying to shrug it off, but its circumstances like this that give me a bad opinon of police, and a bad attituted towards them, I live in a small quite town, and its annoying to think my taxes are going to some jerk off wana be a wonder boy, young punk, piece of fried bacon, pig-headed cop that spends more time harrasing productive and up-standing citizens like myself then he does stopping a crime, I've had my apartment broken into twice, and there is no point calling the cops, they are useless, the ticket writers they send couldnt prevent, or solve a real crime if their lives depended upon it!

Since you are under 18 you fall under a different court system I think or at least that was the way it was in 1971 in California for me.
At seventeen I had a speeding ticket that I had to take a parent down to the Juvenile court to pay. My second was a few months later for speed contest. Went down expecting to pay a fine like I had seen in adult traffic court one day while observing for civics class.Expecting a $300 fine I felt raped when he fined me $75 and 75 day suspension.
Maybe things are different here now. Anyone in Ca. with more recent under 18 experiences?

I guess the Royal Canadian Mounties still Always get their man?;)
Does Canada have anything remotely close to our Bill of Rights that protects us from unlawfull search?
Here you need some sort of probable cause to search a vehicle without a warrant.:)
You must have looked like a suspicious character.:D

As others have suggested, go to court, request traffic school.
It will be cheaper to just pay for the ticket, but the increase in insurance will cost you more in the long run.
In CA, the following items have to be paid for:
    1) Ticket
    2) The right to go to traffic school
    3) Traffic school itself

At 17 you are a high risk and judges will usually not be too lenient with you, besides traffic school isn't that bad, in fact it's pretty entertaining!
