Got a quote for a painted

I am wanting to get my hood re-painted because of sun damage, I dont think the previous owner took care of the paint. I got a quote for $700 to get it to where I would like it. The price included sanding down the hood, painting and blending the hood and fenders to match.

Does $700 seem a bit expensive to you? I was thinking it seemed a bit high.

FYI, I plan on getting multiple quotes.

Seems a bit high to me. Painted the hood on my Integra Type-R and it was around $350-400 range.

You might just want to post in your region on here and see who can paint or has a hookup on paint shops. Tacomaword is great for shit like that.

 

$20 in Plasti-dip; done. $700 is F'n robbery.

 

I can see white flakes slowly starting to show through the paint. I've got about a 10" white stripe down each side of my hood where the hood has a little bend in it.

Paints expensive...700 for a hood with a good blend job ain't bad...if you go the cheap route my guess is you'll regret it if your paints already bothering you...might as well get it done rite the first time..

 

At work we get charge just for materials. $300 something just for a bumper. $100 just to turn on the booth to bake it. Then you need to think about the guy who has to take it off sand it for an hour or two to prep it. Then someone needs to spend an hour or so painting it. Then someone has to put it back on. Your already looking at like $600 before the shop makes any money paying for it's people, material and energy.

You get what you pay for.

That is a fair price if the work is done correctly and warrantied.

 

If you want to go a cheaper route - try Maaco. I know, the name makes most people cringe. I took a chance not too long ago when I purchased a used camper shell and wanted to get it color-matched to my truck. Maaco gave me a $300 OTD price. I couldn't be happier. Paint match was spot-on and the quality as good as one would expect from the factory.

They also gave me a $300-350 quote to paint the roof on a Civic I picked up for commuting recently. Based off of the the quality on the paint job on the camper shell, I'm gonna do it....

maaco gave me an estimate of $600.00 for a new paint of an Accord with 5 yrs warranty. Can't beat that price.

Maaco gave me a quote of 823 for my entire truck. So yeah it's a robbery haha

 

I've had a paint job done by Maaco with the 5 yr warranty. 3 years later the clear coat started to peel. Took it back and they stripped the clear and re-cleared the entire vehicle, for free of course. Best, cheapest paint job I've ever had done. This time I'm taking care of the paint and it's lasted 7 years without issue. I'd recommend it if you can't afford a $2500 paint job at the moment.


I'm guessing they would charge $200-$300 for just the hood. Make sure to get a warranty if you do go this route.

 

I've went to the local Maaco here (actually right next door to where I got the $700 quote) about 4 years back. I wasn't impressed... The color was suppose to be charcoal, came out bronze (maybe I picked the wrong color on the paint chips???), there was a streak and a bead of dried paint near the grill...

I'm sure they do good work somewhere, else they wouldn't still be around. Although, I think the work I got done there in the past pretty well represents there current reputation.
