I would suggest that people who believe in Creationism don't believe in science , doesn't mean they are less wise in my eyes , just less relevant in a science class

 

Highly doubt it lol, the law said they would neither be praised nor penalized for religious views. Therefore it would make sense that the student would receive no credit for the answer.

THIS. they just wont give you credit for the work. never ran into that problem my self. but have heard of a few that have.

My very, very extensive personal exposure to that issue is that it isn't taken that far. Science and religion don't clash often. When they do, its usually a minority sect that raises an issue about it or is willing to take the point hit to make a statement. There will always be homework that clashes with someone's values in some way. Science is hardly the only topic that happens in. Promoting diversity and different world views has all sorts of implications that generally fucks both sides' way of doing business at some point. Deal with the exceptions on a case by case basis. Figuring out compromise is an important part of life.

There are plenty parts of science that are that is how it is and plenty that operate on just as much faith as any religion. Its a human creation and can be subject to all sorts of bias, doubt, error, and argument as anything else. So much of scientific history is fraught with debate, beliefs, emotions, and stupidity that religion has nothing to do with.

 

The teacher won't penalize them but who says their peers wont?

true. but some teachers all though stupid IMO. do say out load what kids got and why...


I know when i was in HS some teachers would not allow kids to talk about hunting or fishing at all. and at a school that close to 1/2 the kids did both hunting and fishing, those teachers where not very well liked. most did not care about kids talking to each other about hunting/fishing or guns.

I bet those schools supporting this and teaching creationism would react differently if some kid started talking about the Buddha's path to enlightenment or attaining Moksha and breaking free of Samsara
